Screenshots look extremely 'sharp'. For example the green shrubs on the ground you can see they're single plains with an opacity map. In a screenshot of Killzone 2 I see blood, smoke, explosions, but looking at this I see squares and triangles. Maybe my eyes are just strawberry floated.

The trees in the background, too. They're just two flat sprites crossing in the middle.

These shots are very strange, some parts look photoshopped in or just flat sprites badly done.

If it's class based and tactical, it could be amazing in the right matches, proper armies head-to-head. And it's not Xbox Live, so there will be less annoying people to mess it up.

Maybe the numbers are too much, though? Well in that case, we need a game to prove it for future projects, and if it's a bad thing then this is the game to show that. I think it will do well, though.

It does look very generic and it's not really my sort of gameanyway so I doubt I'll be buying it, but the level design looks quite good.

Agent47 wrote:The only worry I have with this game is PSN itself, it has issues enough with the relatively limited numbers on existing games, Sony are gonna have to do a lot of work on PSN to avoid this being a total disaster.

Which games are they?
Resistance 2 has 60 players, Resistance 1 had 40, Warhawk has 32 none of these games have any lag. 256 players is a big increase in numbers so it might struggle but it's been ok with most games so far.

The flat sprites I could just about forgive, as it's still early code. They could very well be placeholders for the time being.

It'd be cool if you spawned from the sky and dropped down into the map, you might have snipers picking you off as you land though

This game clearly isn't ready to be shown off.

I don't think it's gonna be much better. What you see here is pretty much what we are going to get.

How can you tell it's average from 5 screenshots from an early build? Given the nature of the game, I'd say it cannot be average, as there is no computer opponent, and 256 online players all having to work as two opposing armies complete with command structure and different roles. As far as FPS's go, there are none other like it, at least on consoles. So how can it be average?

Thats the problem right there, finding the right matches. I think it will be like killzone 2, a pretty good game but ruined by the majority of people who play it.

Not at all, or, I'm considering other factors such as scale and the immense amount of people playing on the same map at the same time. I think this will have an effect on the visuals. I mean if you use SOCOM as the bar for this sort of thing then regardless of technical ability the game could still be brilliant to play.

My biggest fear is MAG seems to be using a FP viewpoint which I think isn't suitable for this type of game.

I think it's trying to, at least partially, replicate actually being a soldier in a battle. Hence, it uses the same viewpoint a soldier would have. I mean, at no point during my army career did I find myself seeing things from behind my own back.

Errr...yeah...well you know what I'm saying so there's no need for that.

As fantastic as 256 players sound, I think everyone knows that will never happen. People moan about games where 32 people cause havoc, never mind 256 people running around. Even if they can separate people and have them doing different things, I really fear for the inst-kill and spawn camping in this game.

I will wait to see some real gameplay footage, which is bound to be at E3 but with BC2 and MW2 turning up this year, is there really space for MAG? Not to mention CoD4 and KZ2 are still huge.

Sounds like Battlefield with more players although it is bound to broken up into smaller battles with smaller groups though not 256 in one go. To me it looks very average as for gameplay only time will tell but I won't hold my breath.

If you look at the map, it seems to be designed like Battlefield maps, where the large amount of players are forced to split up and go different ways. Lots of small choke points, no large expansive areas where 256 players can just run in and rumble in the jungle. Spawn points will be far apart probably.
