Does anyone on here still pick them up? Sub to any? I haven't got any for years, but picked up a few in Tesco's today. Got Edge (£5.50!), total film, empire and stuff. I saw in Edge that they do a digital copy as well, it any good? I wanted to get Gameinformer digitally but the reviews on the store said the app was gooseberry fool, that true? Was looking for a good technology magazine as well, haven't read Stuff yet. T3 any good?

So yeah a topic really for:

What you currently picking up?
Do you get print or digital?
Anyone got any recommendations?
What were your favourite magazines in years gone by?

I subscribe to Rock-a-Rolla (bi-monthly music magazine) and The Vita Lounge (bi-monthly PS Vita magazine). I also get sent Develop every month, despite never paying for it. There was a free sub or something about 5 years ago I signed up for and they haven't stopped sending me them.

I much prefer print, though digital has obvious advantages.

Favourite magazines (mainly gaming) include Arcade, Maximum, CVG (1996-1999), Official UK Playstation Magazine (1995-2000), Terrorizer (2001-2008 or so), Private Eye every so often...

Pre-internet I bought so many magazines. From Your Sinclair, ST Format, though to Official Playstation, Edge, and Games TM. I had a subscription to the latter for years.

However I haven't bought a magazine in years. Internet has so many advantages, cost, up-to-date, video etc.

I've been working my way through the Retro Gamer and Games TM Retro 'bookazines' via my iPad. I use the Zinio app, and then buy through the Zinio website. I figure it's better to use that over the Apple Newstand app in case I ever switch to using a non-IOS device. Once I'm caught up I'll probably start buying Retro Gamer at least on a monthly basis. Sometimes I pick up Edge the same way if there's an appealing feature but generally don't bother with modern magazines much anymore.

I'll also buy the Blizzard in digital format every quarter as well, and I think a gaming magazine in this style would be perfect. It's timelines. You can read an issue of the Blizzard from 3 years ago right now and it wouldn't be any less enjoyable or relevant than it was at the time.

Subscribe to Official PlayStation Magazine and T3. Occasionally purchase Men's Health. T3 had a revamp last month & is now bloody excellent, whereas before you'd flick through it in about 20 minutes. Not in a negative way, there just wasn't a hell of a lot to actually read.

I was surprised when I first picked up Men's Health. Not at all what I was expecting. I can see why it sells so well & has overtaken the likes of FHM and GQ.

Yeah, I never read it either. :shifty:

How the strawberry float did I forget Retro Gamer!? :(

FourFourTwo every so often too, usually the new season special issue, or World Cup/Euro preview ones.

I stopped buying magazines a few years ago, tried digital versions of EDGE and National Geographic but utterly hated using Zinio as I couldn't cope with having to constantly adjust the zoom level every single page turn.

I love print magazines, they're just so expensive these days that I actually feel guilty buying them.

Problem is we get the articles and news up to the minute and whenever we want. Magazines aren't really worth it anymore - even demos are downloaded. Its a shame, but times change. There needs to be proper daily gaming tv shows talking about news and previews - i would pay for that!

I used to get Sega Power religiously as a boy. Some of the humour went over my head a bit as I was quite young, but magazines back then were great. It really just felt like a few lads throwing it all together. I used to enjoy GamesTM for a few years, but ended up 3 months behind at one point - they'd come through the door and I'd just forget/not get around to read them.

The reason I've decided to start picking up mags is for something to read at lunch. Work wi-fi lately has gone to gooseberry fool because it can't handle everyone on their phones at lunch, so instead of say struggling to load twitter I can just read a mag instead.

Didn't like Empire or Stuff. Stuff was just a mag of "look at all these expensive gadgets you'll never be able to afford". Will give T3 a shot and Men's Health.

I don't bother with gaming magazines anymore but do still get Empire and Total Film.

Great thread! A quick "just the facts" response for now...

> What you currently picking up? Official PlayStation Magazine.
> Do you get print or digital? Print; I subscribe.
> Anyone got any recommendations? OPM is a great read at the subscriber price. GamesTM (I was a subscriber for about eight years) and Retro Gamer are both ace, too; they have decent writing, interesting articles and plenty of content.
> What were your favourite magazines in years gone by? My favourites have been... Zzap! 64, Amiga Format, Amiga Power, C&VG, Mean Machines, N64, GamesTM and Official Nintendo Magazine.

I love mags but the decreasing pages and increasing prices do put me off.

I only ever buy WSC nowadays and that is only occasionally. I keep telling myself I'll subscribe as it's a quality mag but I never do.

I miss the N64 Magazine / NGC Magazine days. I was a two-time Star Letter winner, y'know.

I do occasionally flick through another family member's copy of Country Life. You know, just to see how the other half live. Or him, basically.

I've been reading Anti-Gravity Magazine recently.

Impossible to put it down.
