Thought I'd share some of my mini painting with you fine folks. I've been painting since I was about 12 years old on and off. Not only have I had the pleasure of having my figures in several Games Workshop store cabinets across the UK, but I also once had some feature in White Dwarf magazine. (That sounds like an awful brag but it's not, I've always been quite humbled by it and for this aging nerd it was quite the honor)

Today though the standard of painting and modeling is incredibly high, far beyond my own work, but I see that as a good thing as it inspires me to keep pushing myself.

I've also branched out into non-GW minis recently so it won't all be Space Marines and Wood Elves.

Anyway, I'll post up stuff as I go and if you've any of your work own you would like to share I'd love to see them. :D

Cheers, and I hope you like them.

very nice mate.

your highlighting reminds me of second edition 40k, the way the models used to look before they went hyper realistic.

i really like it.

i got away with 15 years of gaming in GWS with drybrushing everything :fp:

A lot of people have said that. Apparently I have an "old school approach" to my painting being the usual comment.

I love working in pastel hues as well, something that isn't done as much these days.

This is from the Animetactics range. Never played the game, but I love the models.

Those are pretty damn good man.

I remember going in with some 'nids and having them paraded around the shop when I was 12 or something. I might take some proper phot... actually I don't have them on me. strawberry float's sake.

I just have some horrible Webcam photos from forever ago of a few miniatures (not my best), I did these when I was 11-14 I think, so I think they're not bad for that age.

I used to work up from Chaos black on everything but later on as you can see on the termagaunt and homogaunt I started trying to work up mixtures of paint for a proper fleshy look (instead of delusions). That was the "'eavy metal" way for Tyranids. It took forever though and around that time I had to start focusing on my GCSEs and I haven't really done any since. I did a few more Dark Elves troops but don't have pictures of them, and originally I did Ultramarines and Eldar, and a couple of Goblins for fun.

For some reason I preferred to use a broad brush and couldn't afford the smaller ones on pocket money  so I would lick a broad brush to a fine tip and use that.. I didn't do the teeth very well on these. I also rushed the dragon big time.

Couldn't be arsed with the game I just enjoyed painting.

I recently bought quite a lot of newer paints off a friend (I still have quite a lot of the old original 90s ones but many of the screw designs dried up, which I always thought would happen :x). And this (product photo):

Which is an awesome Forgeworld resin model, as well as the new "finecast" Lictor:

They're both really detailed models. Still haven't found the time. But been thinking about getting off the strawberry floating net and reigniting some of my childhood hobbies just for fun for ornamental showpieces - what I did before the Internet!

I just love cool monsters.

Well after a lengthy break this is the first thing I see.

Firstly, thanks.

Second, yeah I can do, and have done in the past, depending on what you want done. ie - I don't army pain any more - too time consuming and boring as hell.

Cheers. A good break from the old forum is always good methinks.

Oh, and thanks for the kind words about my mini painting. Oddly enough I've never been able to get nids right, so kudos to you, sir. 8-)

I'd like to give them a shot again when I have more serious-minded, non 12 year old hands. I.e. with these models.

I remember considering working as a miniature painter. Does that job even exist?

Yep, friend of mine was full time at the studio, but the money wasn't great; not the kind that will see you living in well in Notts.

Best way to get noticed is through the yearly Golden Demon comp. They use it as a kind of recruiting place, or at least they did.

Haha, no I certainly couldn't afford to live off low pay doing that in Surrey.

I'd probably go more mad than working in IT/learning, which I should be hopefully earning £15/h.

I still have a gooseberry fool load of White Dwarf mags.. or I should do, assuming they haven't been thrown out along with my NGC collection. :( My room got emptied into storage while my house was being renovated - which my mother somehow neglected to tell me - so I have no idea where half my gooseberry fool is.

I want to get my old miniatures back - I have loads of dark elves and 'nids waiting to be painted, including loads of old stuff which is cool for modding. Just something creative and fairly pointless to do so I don't go mad while looking for work.

I threw all my WD out when I became a man. I think I still have a bunch of figs up in the loft but no interest to get them down, that ship has sailed.

I forgot about mine in a cupboard for a good decade or so, in a room I wasn't even living in for about 3 years then moved to uni. My house just had chronic build up of shite due to broken family and other stuff, and has only just been totally emptied. Now all the kids have gotta shift this stuff and this reminded me I still have a few. I don't think it was more than a couple issues actually, featuring nids.

I might re-read some NGCs for nostalgia, then give them to my university library for the Computer Arts students.. that's the actual "collection".

Maybe someone wants it on here, otherwise it's going in the recycling.
