Come to think of it, I haven't done recovery discs for my laptop. Any particular software I should get and use to do it? Think mine comes with MSI's own software to do it, but if there's a better recommended one I'd rather use that.

Just burn a Windows 7 + SP1 disc. It does the same thing and more.

Well, Amazon have basically said if I send it back I can have a refund, so once I've tried using the USB HDD caddy, I'll be doing that, as Acer's customer service is atrocious. They keep telling me I need to burn the recovery discs using the laptop, ignoring the fact I've told them four times now that the laptop isn't in a working state :fp:

Glad you can get your money back if nothing else works. Probably the best option tbh.

The lesson to be learned from this, (as if looking at the thing shouldn't have been enough) is to never buy anything from Acer.

I've had an Acer touchscreen desktop for 2.5 years and never had a problem with it, and this laptop for a decent price and had good reviews, so I didn't see the problem.

Anyway, the HDD caddy worked perfectly, so I now have all my documents - thanks Mafro :)

Gonna be sending it back to Amazon in the week. So, does anybody have any laptop recommendations for £350-£400?

There's been some good deals on Lenovos on HUKD lately.

You can't really beat Lenovo.

Why so much love for Lenovo? The Mrs says they are shite and she'd never get one again after her last Lenovo laptop.

Lenovo bought IBMs laptop division, which used to be the best PC laptop company going.

I don't know how much of that extends to their other models outside of the ThinkPad line, but they seem to be pretty highly regarded.

I know you're talking about Lenovo, but Acer really are absolutely terrible.

I've heard that cheap lenovos, are as well built as other cheap laptops. I've heard good things about the Thinkpads though.

Acers really are not absolutely terrible.

You seem to have a lot of opinions which are wrong. Like that crappy Chinese phone you bought which you thought was the OMG BEST THING EVAR which you´re now looking to get rid of.

lol

It's actually still very good. I'm just sick of Android and my mum wants an Android phone, so I've given it to her.

:simper:

And Acer are largely acknowledged as having poor customer services and making shoddy laptops. It's not just my opinion. See laptop reliability reports, which they come bottom of, every quarter. Lenovo have come top for a while now.
