After the first midboss, and the compatible ones are Mario, Luigi, Peach and Yoshi. I only have yarn yoshi of those four, it unlocks a unique weapon/subweapon. But I don't have yoshi yet so no idea how good they are!

Bloody hell. With people being positive I guess I'll be picking this up next payday :toot:

I was interested but wanted to see what others said about it before taking the plunge.

Oops - I meant tree-things, not hill-things!

Ah, yes, I've got to Peach's castle and seen that the Rabbids have started to build an NFC point  . Out of those four amiibo, I have Mario and - like you - Yarn Yoshi.

I don't think this game is for me. It just doesn't appeal.

Either I am REALLY gooseberry fool at this or this is a lot harder than I expected. Challenge in world 1 is labelled "very easy" it's nails.

I'm in the fourth area of world one and I've just won the first two battles although it took me a couple of attempts. I'm starting to realise that combining actions is crucial i.e. dash attack, down a pipe, behind cover and then shoot!

Still early days but I am enjoying this. I hope that the difficulty doesn't ramp up too sharply.

You need to stream the levels coming up.

People on Gaf were having troubles with that as well. It seems that the challenges understate their difficulty.

The boss at the end of world one is amazing  :x :toot:

Uh-oh... that doesn't sound good  .

Whilst playing the battles I've noticed that a little box pops up saying something like "Easy battle - press Y". I haven't tried it, but I guess this reduces the difficulty a bit?

Also, I wonder how big the game is - will we get lots of levels for our money or has the season pass cut out a chunk of the content?

I haven't tried the easy mode but it should make things more manageable which will help with the levels that Rog has in mind :shifty:

It has taken me four and a half hours to reach the end of level one but I'd like to re-do the boss to get a perfect rating and there are also challenges that unlock at the end of each world. It sounds like the game has a total of four worlds so, even without the challenges, it should last about 18 hours which is enough for me. I'm really enjoying the game but I don't want it to drag on for 40+ hours as I rarely play a game for that long these days.

The way things are going, I don't think that I'll find myself feeling that I've been ripped off and content has been carved off to sell in the season pass. Dragon Age: Origins, despite being a fantastic game, is the worst example of that but, thankfully, I haven't really seen such a thing since.

What is this, a platformer or puzzle game?

I feel that it is a strategy game. Apparently it's similar to XCOM but I've not played that. I can see aspects of Fire Emblem, Advance Wars and Disgaea in it. The styling is wonderfully fun and silly.

It's very much Mario x X-Com and it's spectacular  :toot:

World 2 definitely steps up in difficulty as I can't steamroll through a level with a perfect rating.

I started off with a few Perfects in World 1 but then only got a couple of Goods. I hope to have another go later this evening and, based on Rog's feedback, I think the pace is gonna be hotting up.

Even at such an early stage, the game has been one of my favourites on the Switch so far and it has helped me to appreciate the console and the display. To be honest I haven't used the machine that much - just a bit of Kart and a touch of Disgaea, really - but this feels fresh and exciting.

Copying my thoughts over from SONM:

Finished world two, which means I'm about halfway through the story I believe. The two world bosses have both been excellent.

I'm still really enjoying the game, it's keeping me engaged completely. It has the classic Nintendo design (Ubisoft obviously took notes) of always introducing new mechanics (be it map gimmicks, enemies or playable characters) that means the gameplay always stays fresh. The exploration and puzzle solving between battles is well balanced and breaks up the combat without feeling like padding - especially as you can run through to the next battle very quickly if you're not looking for secrets.

It's surprising how integral movement is to battles. Obviously they thought about how best to incorporate platforming of a sorts with it being a Mario game, and it wouldn't be much of an exaggeration to describe the game as strategy platforming. You rarely want to be moving your characters individually - it's all about chaining together the movement through dash attacks and team jumps to maximise damage and traverse around the maps.

This chaining of attacks and multitude of movement options lends in to the game encouraging and rewarding aggressive play. Along with the frequently low turn limit this means battles are quick to play out but take time in the planning to come to the optimal strategy. It's a way of playing that's really fun.

You're steaming through the game, OR!

I just tackled the "midway boss" in world 1-5. I bumped off the goons sharpish but that Rabbid Piranha is a right pain! As it has 300 health, it's quite a step up from the baddies tackled earlier in the game. One-by-one it got my team members and I was defeated. I think I need to keep the team closer together to make better use of dash and jump moves.
