Well with Mario Kart it's 4p cheaper to buy with them than without.

Since when was MK only allowed tracks based on levels in previous Mario platformers??

Extending that out, what the hell do Donkey Kong Country levels have to do with the original Donkey Kong game of the 80s? Or what do the Mario Galaxy levels have to do with any previous Marios?

So why on earth would you want to constrain the MK tracks in that way? It's about racing around fantastical courses, it's about having fun. That's the only constraint that ought to be applied surely?

This is some funky logic coming up I'll admit, but after playing Mario 3D Land, I've got more faith than ever that this will be brilliant.

Don't even ask me how that works, but it does. Wa-hoo!

I'm buying a 3DS just for this game.

I love all the Mario Karts (some more than others) and its the only game I still get really excited about on the lead up to launch.

Yeah it's this kind of nostalgic conservatism that holds back so many of Nintendo's key franchises.

"It should be common sense to just accept the message Nintendo are sending out through their actions."

I'm all for nostalgic nods to past games in a series as they creates tug on your emotions, but it should be just that; a nod. It shouldnt stilt progress or change. Anything that stops moving dies.

I just don't like tracks that have too many obstacles or too much wacky design, The Maple Leaf track in MKWii was an abomination because of all the gooseberry fool cluttering. Winning had nothing to do with skill but rather the luck of where the bouncy gooseberry fool the wigglers and the falling parts would end up dumping you back down.

DK Volcano from Double Dash on the other hand is one of my favourite tracks in that game, as despite the 'out there' setting it was good fun to actually race and was solidly designed with pitfalls included rather than a a gooseberry fool load of obstacles with a loose route around them.

First track that got me time trialling

There's a massive MK website on the web somewhere and I think I managed to get up to 12 on it, but then stopped for a week or so and people had pulled out a massive lead

MK:SC>SMK>MK DS>MK Wii>MK 64>MK DD>>>>>DKR.

I'm hoping this will be better than DS, not really expecting anything like as good as Super Circuit.
