The DLC is £11; great value for the super tracks that you get.

It's a tough call; it is - in my view - one of the best racing games ever and it feels hard to gripe about such an excellent package. Personally I just feel that Nintendo could have done a bit more in terms of improving the proposition for existing Wii U / Kart 8 owners; at least by adding a few new tracks. I think the comment that it's more of a GOTY edition was a good point.

Do Nintendo set the game prices or do the retailers do that as well like with the consoles? I've got it preordered for £42 and most other places seem to be selling it for around the same price so if anyone is paying full RRP for it then they're not looking in the right places.

Aren't they just doing what other developers do?

Just had a quick look and the Dark Souls 3 GOTY edition out soon seems to be full price. It costs ¥5200 over here and MK8 is about ¥5400 I think.

It's strawberry floating shocking From Software taking the piss like this.

Likewise, looking at the PS4 launch line up, quite a few games were ports of PS3/360 games. I bet Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition and Assassin's Creed IV weren't budget titles.

Ideally, yeah, we'd all be paying £30 max for these games. But the industry as a whole has set the pattern of charging full price, not Nintendo.

It wouldn't be an issue if there was lots of other stuff, but there isn't.

If you have an actual line up on new or exclusive stuff and then you bulk it with some rerelease, remaster, port stuff fine. But when it is forming a major part of your launch line up it is pretty gooseberry fool.

But to take Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition as an example, it didn't launch with a lot of other stuff. It's sole piece of single player DLC was an extra tomb, and the rest consisted of a few multiplayer maps. It was also a launch title. This happens pretty much every time a new console is released - developers carry over a game from the last-gen, spruce it up a bit and add any DLC or extras. It even happened with the launch of the GC, and Sonic Adventure 2: Battle.

I just find the shock outrage at Nintendo a little unreasonable, considering pretty much every major developer has done it and it is something that is the norm for console launches.

Remasters and ports are just part of the industry and they pretty much always carry a full price tag. Nintendo's thinking is probably that the want the game to sell to a larger owner base this time instead of just to the 527 who owned a Wii U.

They aren't very likely to sell many more Wii U consoles, and "people who didn't own a Wii U" is quite a large player base to target.

I'm with Parksey, really looking forward to this, never owned a Wii U. The table top splitscreen play looks great!

We should migrate GRcade to Flarum. :toot:

This game will shift consoles if they market it correctly. A lot of people missed out on it first time round.

I can't stand MK8 split screen on a TV, let alone a tiny screen on a table

I think it'd be alright with two players with a vertical splitscreen, any more than that though...aye probably not :P

In the age of widescreen it makes more sense.

Thinking about people's reaction to the Deluxe package, I think one thing that has really hurt it is all those rumours going round beforehand that people put a lot of faith in. That's lead to even more disappointment it doesn't have 16 new tracks etc

What about £42 (or £40 if you have Prime)

 And I pre-ordered it the other day at that price too, despite not having a Switch...

I know I'll get a Switch at some point, so I want to stagger buying the games before I get it later this year.

And yes, I'm a complete hypocrite :fp:

Either your TV is too small or you sit too far away. Mario Kart is all about the local multiplayer.

Mario Kart is all about the Mario Kart Mondays.
Especially with that vertical splitscreen
