Oh man, yeah - the Rainbow courses are complete pains for newcomers. I really disliked them when I started out but now I enjoy them - especially the SNES one! I find that it's best to avoid the boosts and spinners on occasion 'cos, as you say, they can send you off-course :lol:

Once you have mastered the tracks in terms of bends and twists, the short-cuts come into play. I know very few of them but the top players always use these tricks as they can shave off a second or so here and there.

I'm quite good at spotting shortcuts, just look for the random banana someone's left at the side of the track

Thinking about the number of GRcadian karters we potentially have... imagine how ace Mario Kart would be if - rather than 12 racers - the field was, say, 24. Of course, tracks would need to be designed to accomodate this number of racers, but it could be incredible!

Another thought... I'd love to see the ability to customise your character and kart much in the same way as Splatoon. It'd be amazing to tinker about in a garage area (much like Splatoon's Plaza) where you could equip kit and clothing.

Maybe these ideas could come to fruition in Mario Kart 9? :-)

You should be working for Nintendo and tell your idea to them.

I don't get the idea that tracks need to be wider to accomadate more racers. So long as the thinnest parts of the tracks are at least three or four kart widths long [not including run-offs], you're fine.
Of course, to even have twenty-four racers on the track you need that many racers. Not a problem, of course, but the roster in 8 is pretty samey so even with twelve racers you can have three Marios, three babies, and two Peaches or any such variant.
