Yeah that's the part that tipped me off. Makes no difference to me as I've not played the original either. I just thought it was a brand new game.

Would it really have been much more hassle to make a set of new levels?

Why do that when you can reheat a pre-existing game though.

It's being made by NST who are quite a small studio these days and used more as a support studio/for ports. They are also behind F-Zero 99, so they seem to be on the up at the moment. If this does well, I would not be surprised to see a full blown sequel made on Switch 2.

I guess I just feel a bit fatigued with all the remasters and HD things Nintendo are putting out at the moment.
I know why they do it, people are asking for them and they presumably sell well enough. It was just a bit of an "oh it's another remaster" when I realised.

Yes, I think it's pretty clear at this stage that most of Nintendo's big teams are on working on Switch 2. 2023 has had some big releases from their internal teams (TOTK, Pikmin 4 and Mario Wonder) but 2024 is very much going to be a shift of focus to Switch 2 with ports/remakes to carry them through until then.
