I actually thought she was hugely under-utilised and continued the issue Marvel has with villains. With the exception of Michael Keaton's Vulture, I don't think there's been a single good Marvel villain.

I certainly agree that her character was little more than an exposition machine, but my word did she look great doing it :datass:

Not many people will agree with me, but I really like James Spader's Ultron. I thought Ego was brilliant in GOTG Vol 2 too

I really liked Darren Cross in Ant-Man and Zero in Civil War. Agree that Ultron and Ego were really good too.

Cross as a character was pretty cookie cutter, plus he fell into the 'inverted hero' villain archetype, but it was a solid performance. Zemo is a good shout, he was excellent, and one of the few they didn't kill off thankfully

I feel like you're both missing Loki - as much of a wanker as Tom Hiddleston is, Loki is great.

"Why do they always forget about me?"

I actually think Marvel does ok with its villains - generally the performances are good and the actors do the best they can with what they're given. I think there was a period between about Iron Man 2 and Guardians of the Galaxy where Loki really carried everything and they've never quite recovered their reputation from it, but I can think of half a dozen Marvel bad guys I've really enjoyed. I agree with Ego and Vulture, definitely. Loki, Baron Zemo, Aldrich Killian(and "The Mandarin" ), and Red Skull were also good. Alexander Pierce as well.

Ronan the Accuser, Abomination(not Tim Roth's fault), Malekith, Whiplash and probably Darren Cross are all piss tier, usually due to bad writing rather than bad performance.

Kaecilius, Obadiah Stane, Justin Hammer and Ultron are all decent - Stane I personally really enjoyed, and probably only suffers in hindsight as he was the first in a long line of corporate bad dudes. If I'm missing anyone they're probably crap. I haven't included the henchman tier guys like Crossbones or Arnim Zola either - I don't think they're comparable to most of these guys.

On a side note, I feel like as much as people have criticised Dr. Strange for being formulaic, there has been a good set up for Chiwetel Ejiofor's Baron Mordo in there. I'll be sorely disappointed if he doesn't join the A-tier of villainy after Dr. Strange 2: Strange Harder.

If I've missed anyone, they're probably crap.

I think the problem is they're mostly fine rather than great. I was going to mention Loki, but he peaked with Avengers. If they're doing a redemption arc with him I think it's taken too long. After writing that I put together a list of villains actually, might end up ranking them myself for an article

I've missed out some, like the big metal guy in Thor and some of the other secondary villains, gone for the main antagonists and some others that made an impact (like Crossbones).

Obadiah Stane / Iron Monger
Abomination
Ivan Vanko / Whiplash
Justin Hammer
Loki
Red Skull
Aldrich Killian
Malekith
Bucky Barnes / The Winter Soldier
Brock Rumlow / Crossbones
Alexander Pierce
Ronan the Accuser
Ultron
Darren Cross / Yellowjacket
Helmut Zemo
Kaecilius
Dormammu
Ego
Vulture
Hela

Haven't seen Ragnarok yet and I don't count the Winter Soldier as a villain, but I'd go with:

Loki
Vulture
Red Skull
Alexander Pierce
Helmut Zemo
Ego
Aldrich Killian
Obadiah Stane
Crossbones
Kaecilius
Ultron
Yellowjacket
Arnim Zola
Dormammu
Ronan the Accuser
Justin Hammer
Abomination
Malekith
Whiplash

I think if you're going to include Crossbones you need to put Arnim Zola in there - Toby Jones was great and he has a cracking monologue in The Winter Soldier.

Can't remember who half of them are.

I liked Michael Keaton as vulture though. Thought his story was quite sad actually :(

I was always a little disappointed Pierce didn't end up being Red Skull, as little sense as that would have made.

I thought that would have been an amazing nonsense twist. Would've ruined the film for future viewings but for pure in-cinema shock value it could have been so good.

I actually don't disagree - I felt quite gooseberry fool for him when Damage Control came in and shut down his business. :slol:
