Mentalists to suggest Avengers 2 is the worst. There's at least 4 films worse than it.

Iron Man 2 and Thor 2 are clearly the worst.

Thor 1 and Captain America 1 are pretty boring movies.

Hulk. That one always gets forgotten about because it was so long ago.

Yep, it checks out. This man has definitely seen Thor 2.

I meant I couldn't remember Iron Man 2.

I'm still of the opinion that there hasn't been a "bad" MCU movie. I've enjoyed every single one of them. There are certainly some that aren't particularly good and have issues (Thor 2, IM2 and IH) but even they all have something in them I enjoy.

If we're talking worst movie based on Marvel then it's probably the most recent Fantastic Four movie. God that was trash.

I haven't seen it but the 1990 Captain America movie always looked abysmal as well.

Depends how you define bad. I'd say of the ones I've seen Avengers 1 & 2, Cap 1, and all the Iron Mans (Men?) were formulaic, fairly boring and a waste of potential. Perhaps not bad, but nothing more than mildly entertaining. Iron Man 2 maybe swings into actually bad territory.

I’m always seeing the hate IM2 gets and I would like to know what specifically it is that makes people call it a bad film. I actually enjoyed it and to this day don’t get why it has such a bad rep.

I know the whole “finding new element” is a bit Deus Ex machina but I found it enjoyable and the villains were pretty interesting, particularly hammer who wasn’t typical super villain, rather an arrogant rival who has no power aside from money.

In hindsight it’s IM3 that I found poor. The whole mandarin thing was awful, the fire villains were poor, that annoying kid was annoying and it barely had any Ironman in it. Oh and super cheap “pepper saves the day ending” plus that quitting resolution felt out of tone with MCU since they ignored it for every film that followed.

IM2 was a badly paced, bloated piece of film making with a terrible plot. IM3 was a badly paced bloated piece of film making with a terrible plot and great dialogue.

I think Thor 2 was probably the worst of the lot, and although there may not have been many outright 'bad' films the formula is getting old for me. I enjoyed Thor 3 but you could feel it's two hearts fighting against each other: the quirkiness of Waikiki Vs the generic action of the summer blockbuster. GotG 1 tried something new, and worked, but then simply repeated it for the sequel. The rest have become almost interchangeable, and with that entirely predictable.

I think the new Avengers will see the bubble burst. It's looking like an overcrowded CGI fest akin to the recent DC films.

I also dont think theres been a "bad" MCU movie, there has been some dips but I wouldnt turn down the chance to watch any of them. I keep waiting for a dud but they havent delivered one yet which I think is the craziest part of this whole thing.

The bad Marvel films are like the bad Pixar ones, only really considered bad when compared to their siblings...

Bar Cars 2 of course...

Can’t agree with the first Cap movie being deemed as average or formulaic. Probably one of my favourites.

I also never quite got the hate for IM2. Plot makes sense to me and my only real complaint about it is that Whiplash doesn't ever really get a proper fight. They take him out quite quickly in the end. It is one of the weaker Phase 1 films, but still perfectly enjoyable.

Like Daz I didn't like IM3 particularly, at least at first. I felt there wasn't enough actual Iron Man in the movie, which is one of my pet-peeves with Comic Book movies. I'm here to see the main characters do their thing. IM3 didn't have enough of that and Dark Knight Rises had that issue as well. For a Batman movie there was a distinct lack of Batman. That said IM3 also grew on me over time and as a fan of the "Extremis" and "Five nightmares" storylines from the comics it was great to see them adapted. The bait and switch with the Mandarin was fun as well. Ben Kingsley was great as Trevor.

Certainly there are ones that have grown on me over time. Thor and Captain America initially underwhelmed me, but I think when you take them as part of a larger storyline they shine a bit brighter. Cap especially has become one of my favourite Phase 1 movies. Thor is still a bit meh in places, but the work done with the character over the Avengers movies and Thor 2 and Ragnarock elevates it a bit.

If there's one movie I don't particularly look forward to watching it's Thor 2. It's just a bit boring and grey.

But like Rax I definitely feel that they've still not delivered a dud, which after 10 years and 17 movies is ridiculous. There have definitely been ones I was wary about. Ant-Man, Doctor Strange and even Guardians all worried me before they came out. But they've not seen me wrong so far and I definitely trust that they know what they are doing at this point.

Tommy Lee Jones is just brilliant in that movie. Hugo Weaving, Toby Jones...just class.

There's a strong argument, I think, for the first Cap being the best of the three - it's certainly the one that is least encumbered by the mythology of the MCU.

Which one? The Bana Hulk isn't part of the MCU(to the best of my knowledge), Incredible Hulk was a soft reboot, that I'd agree is one of the weakest MCU films. Along with Iron Man 2 and Thor: The Dark World.

The weakest film based on a Marvel IP is the 2015 Fantastic Four reboot IMO, followed swiftly by Elektra, Punisher: War Zone, Ghost Rider, Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance and Blade Trinity. I will note though, that I strawberry floating love both Ghost Rider films and Blade Trinity because they're pulpy and fun. "Cock juggling thunder banana split" is a line that is second in genius only to, "Some mummy strawberry floaters always trying to ice skate up hill," in Marvel films.

Matt Salinger's Captain America is so bad it's incredible, as is the Lundgren Punisher and David Hasselhoff's Nick Fury movie.

Has anyone seen the unreleased 90s FF film? Is it good?

As a post-script, I do genuinely think that the majority of people will look back on the era of Marvel films dominating the box office with fondness; as far as summer blockbuster films go, I think there's a lot to love about the vast majority of them, and a spark that you don't find in the Jurassic Worlds or Fast/Furious films of this world.

I would say Doctor Strange is my least favourite, although the ending was very clever.

This was a bizarre one because MCU states they were done with origin films before this came out and then went and made a formulaic origin film.

Still enjoyed it though, even if they wasted mads
and chiwetel in small roles
