And all that was accomplished was somehow making people even less excited about that next X-Men movie

I'm still holding out for Silver Surfer and Galactus in Infinity War and then The Fantastic Four being pulled through an alternate 60s timeline where Reed Richards then buys the ex Avengers Tower when they can't get back home :datass:

And then a 60s Fantastic 4 period piece in Phase 4

Holy gooseberry fool Ragnarok was good. Couple of thoughts that I'll share when I'm not waiting for the second after credits scene.

Just saw it too. That was absolutely top tier, up there with GOTG, Winter Soldier and Iron Man.

So, plus points:

- Jeff Goldblum. His performance was peak Goldblum. The man lights up any scene he's in.And at the end too. "It's a tie!"

- Taika Waititi. Both director and actor - Korg was amazing.

- The Hulk really came into his own here. The interplay with Thor was fantastic.

- The look and feel of the film was amazing. I never thought I'd compliment someone who used to be in Devo but Mark Mothersbaugh's work on this was really great, and Sakaar in particular had that awesome used-up and trashed look that 1980s sci-fi did so well.

- I loved the humour of the whole thing. It worked really well and there were a few moments where I completely lost my gooseberry fool. Mostly involving Korg, but also one where Loki screams "YES! NOW YOU KNOW HOW IT FEELS!" after Hulk ragdolls Thor.

Negative points

- Think others have mentioned this but the cut backs to Asgard took away from the action a little, for me. I appreciate that they were necessary and they were far from bad, but they just weren't *as* good as what was going on elsewhere.

- Hela could've been better. I'm going to go against popular opinion though and say that I really enjoyed her. You could see Cate Blanchett was having a ball as well.

For me, until I view it again it's a solid 9/10. Definitely agree that it's up there with the best Marvel films.

Now for some spoiler chat:

I'm pretty sure Hela's not dead. They kept saying how Asgard wasn't just a place, but also that she draws her power from Asgard, so it might be that she keeps her power after Surtur blew the place up. I also loved how the throwaway opening scene turned out to be pretty vital to the plot.

Bruce Banner, on the other hand, looked like he'd died before the final change into Hulk. There was a lingering shot of what looked like lifeless eyes after he jumped onto the bifrost bridge. I hope I'm wrong about that, and I probably am, but strawberry float me it looked that way.

Assuming that was Thanos' ship at the end.

Loved Hela casually shutting an ancient plot hole when she picked up the infinity gauntlet in the vault and said "fake" before chucking it away.

Also loved the use of The Immigrant Song as a bit of a leitmotif for Thor and foreshadowing for all the Asgardians having to leave home. It doesn't seem like much, but speaks to the level of detail in the film I think.

It's pretty clear by now that Heimdall's eyes are the soul gem, right? I'm surprised he survived the film and didn't have someone ripping his eyes out of his head.

Supposedly, according to Taika Waititi, 80% of the dialogue was unscripted. I'm not sure how accurate that is, but a lot of the humour had a really natural feel to it that worked really well. Felt a lot funnier than some of the more forced jokes they've used in past films that fell flat (Avengers 2 comes to mind).

I read the same stat - there are only a couple of points where it's really obvious as well, which I thought was impressive. Thor's snake story about Loki was top tier random gooseberry fool as well.

Re-watched Guardians vol. II today for the first time since the cinema - Ego is actually a top, top villain. Probably in no small part thanks to Kurt Russell, to be fair.

He really gives it his all. I love that Ego is basically the embodiment of toxic masculinity

Yep. Thanos is totally blinding him early into Infinity War.

Just watched Ragnarök, was silly and fun. Loved the neon eighties vibe.
Has one of those annoying people in the cinema who has to let everyone know they're laughing. strawberry float off and get a proper laugh

Vanity Fair covers and photoshoot

It's ridiculous how exciting I find that picture. Marvel/Disney have done so well and growing their universe making you care about characters and being excited to see them come together.

DC must be in the shower somewhere crying and trying to wash the disappointment and shame off.

Edit: Hawkeye's hair though

Why does Thor have his hammer and cap have his shield though?

Thor has his right eye too. It's a photoshoot for the MCU generally, rather than for Infinity War. Cap is clean-shaven too

There's leaked Infinity War footage going about. Trailer coming soon, no doubt.
