On the time travel vs multiverse thing - again, I don’t think I agree. The potential for wrecking the gooseberry fool out of your 20+ film franchise with time travel is much more real than chucking a few alt-Spideys in there. I don’t even think Endgame managed to avoid it completely as it ultimately had to *introduce the multiverse* to get around the timey-wimey bollocks! The Ancient One brings the concept in when she’s talking to The Hulk about the infinity stones!

If they do the multiverse stuff right it’ll be referential rather than integral. The actors they’ve got from previous franchises will be cameos, stuff for eagle eyed and hardcore viewers that doesn’t really impact on the wider film and storyline. And if it does, it won’t be “look at the Spider-Men from different franchises!” It’ll be “look at all these Spider-Men from different universes!” similar time Spider-Verse.

Oh, and mark my words it’ll end with a riff on One More Day, it Strange is involved. Spidey goes to Strange for a spell to put his secret back in the box after the Mysterio reveal at the end of the last film, strawberry floats it across the universe stream, they sort it out and he gets his spell but MJ and Ned forget his identity.

Sony want to expand the Spider-verse, movies with characters they have the rights to. MM was a possibility before, after the PlayStation game raising his profile this has made him a legit mainstream character I think it’s a certainty. But Holland plays a school age Spider-Man so maybe 3 years to separate them.

I'll go back to what I said years ago in that it should have been Miles in the MCU to begin with rather than a 3rd Peter Parker Spider-Man reboot.

Completely, absolutely agree with this and I think I did at the time as well. I don’t think it was a gamble at all, either. Morales was *so* popular after his introduction that they should’ve been chomping at the bit to get him into the larger franchise.

He’s also much more representative of modern New York City - Parker’s very good but he’s also coming up on sixty years old. It’s tough to keep that relevant.

I've got no issue with more Spiderverse type storylines as Spiderverse is the best super hero movie bar none. Maybe digging too deep into the shared movies could be a mistake though, I don't mind seeing multiple Spideys but I'm not sure I need to see Garfield Spider-Man again or a 20 years older Molina Doc Oc.

I'm happy for there to be a multi-verse "phase" so to speak, that's used to do the Spider-Man crossovers, bring back Vision and ultimately introduce Fantastic Four and X-Men, but I don't want it to be what all the movies are about going forward.

I've got faith that they know what they're doing though. They've not made any true stinkers yet and Feige seems to know what he wants to do "big picture".

I was thinking the same, he’s clearly coming  but also as I said on the other page they went with Parker again as Disney wanted him in the MCU. And this is the best movie incarnation of Parker so why are people moaning :fp:

Not moaning, the film is very good and I like Holland. However, it goes back to the point I made in the game thread about missed opportunities with the character. The film was very good(and I do agree, best live action adaptation), when it could’ve been transformative.

Yes. The point was he should’ve been the star, not a throwaway line that may or may not lead to something five years down the line. Also - Donald Glover deserves a bigger part, I’d have loved him in as Aaron Davis.

Miles was (and is!) hugely popular when introduced in the comics, and with good reason! However, whilst not wanting to dismiss them I don't think that's massively relevent - for the vast majority of the movie going audience the MCU IS Marvel, they don't have a clue about the comics. For them Miles didn't exist until Spider-verse which came out after Parker had already entered the MCU in Civil War.

I agree that a Miles Spider-man (as the "main" Spider-man) would have been fantastic in the MCU and would loved to have seen them go down that route, but I can see why they didn't at the time.

I understand them feeling the need to play it safe in 2016/17, especially after the Garfield Spider-Man films, but I can’t see it as anything but a missed opportunity if I’m completely honest. And I say that as someone who genuinely fanboys over the film, and the MCU in general. My social historian component kicks in a little bit, I think.

I was just talking to a mate about it - all they had to do was scoop out Parker, scoop in Miles and change almost nothing about the script itself. It becomes a film that gives kids and teenagers an idol and a superhero who reflects their identity years before Black Panther and in a much more relatable way than “king of a hidden country.”

Again, that’s not to take anything away from what we got, and it is wishful thinking on my part, but man I’d have loved to see it.

I really like the MCU Spider-Man films but they are far from perfect. It would have been brilliant to start with Miles, but like Jenuall says I don't think the wider audience would have had any clue who he was 5 years ago. Into The Spider-Verse and the new game has probably gone a decent way to bringing him into the public consciousness more.

One of my biggest gripes with the MCU films are the actual action scenes involving Spider-Man. To me the Spider-Man scenes in Garfield's films look a lot better and capture the movement and essence of the character more.

Of course there is zero argument against this, it would have been a fantastic move to go with Miles for all of these reasons and if there was such a thing as a "right" choice then this would have been it IMO.

If tomorrow's announcements confirm that it'll be great. I'm quite looking forward to what else might be revealed. Having this break from marvel films has done wonders for my levels of interest in this next phase.

Yup, I'm fully on board with that. Get Scott Glenn back as Stick before he shuffles of this mortal coil and I might explode with happiness.

That's probably approaching critical mass in terms of casting for me. Although to be fair, I don't believe this rumour.
