I'm also of the "IM2/Thor2 are the worst Marvel films" school of thought. Have no desire to ever watch any of them again.

Some thought on The Incredible Hulk:

• This was actually pretty good. The whole opening in Brazil, particularly the chase, is great. In fact, director Louis Leterrier does a really good job with the action throughout, both the battle at the university and the fight at the end.
• Perhaps one of the reasons Ed Norton got the boot was because he looks very similar to Robert Downey Jr. Surely I can't be the only one that thinks they have a resemblance? His performance is pretty understated, but that fits in with his character's mindset of staying calm.
• Poor Liv Tyler doesn't get much to do though. This is pretty much the token-love interest role.
• The casting of Tim Roth for Blonsky was wrong in my view. Roth is too cerebral an actor. It would have been better with a mindless beefcake playing the role. I could have better believed he had been corrupted by the power. Also there's the whole he was Russian but grew up in England and is on secondment from the marines back story  Why not just get a Russian actor?
• This version of the Hulk seems taller, lither, and more buff than what I remember from both Avengers films. I'll have to keep any eye out when I get round to them.
• General Ross has no business lecturing the Avengers in the Civil War trailer about potential civilian casualties. At the end of this film he orders his helicopter gunner to open fire on the Abomination, raking into a (presumably) occupied block of flats with absolutely no concern for collateral damage!
• How do they actually capture the abomination at the end? Hulk subdues him by strangling him, then sods off, leaving a couple of cops and firemen to look after a monster capable of withstanding a blast from a rocket launcher.
• So Banner avoided Ross/SHIELD for five years without detection, yet in Avengers Assemble they need to get him, and find him instantly. I guess SHIELD knew where he was but just left him alone.
• When Ross gets the super soldier serum (I guess they found some spare, considering The First Avenger says it was all destroyed), he gets it out of a container that says Dr Reinstein on it – a nod to the comic origin of Captain America – although in The First Avenger he was renamed Dr Erskine. Perhaps he changed his name when he got to America?
• I'm not sure why people say the pre-credits scene with Stark and Ross doesn't make sense. At the end of Iron Man, Fury introduces the Avenger initiative. Stark tells Ross he might be able to help tackle the Hulk. Isn't it logical they might want to create the Avengers to mitigate potential threats like the Hulk? I presume this ties into the thinking that Hulk was going to be the threat in Avengers Assemble originally.

Next up: Iron Man 2

The problem with Iron Man is that he is a great character and I don't feel that the films gave him a good enough story. RDJ plays Tony Stark really well, the on screen Iron Man suit is great but they never found a story for him that was good enough for the Iron Man franchise.

Yes?

Pretty much, Fury or Black Widow says this in Avengers, adding that SHIELD kept "other parties" (or something like that) off his trail as well.

I always thought that Tim Roth was an odd casting. Then again, he's in all sorts.

Here are some thoughts on Iron Man 2.

• This is not as bad as people seem to be suggesting. Perfectly watchable entertainment. People might struggle to maintain their disbelief at some stages, but it's no worse than any of the other Marvel movies for this.
• Why does Iron Man need to jump out of the plane at the start? Why doesn't he just fly to the Stark Expo?
• How did Rhodes earn so many medals?
• When did Vanity Fair start doing so many profiles on weapons manufacturers?
• How does Vanko know about Stark's problem with the palladium? And that ends up being just a throw away line that doesn't lead to anything at all.
• Vanko is a bit of a loser. Easily beaten by Iron Man at the racetrack once he gets his suit, and then easily beaten by Iron Man and War Machine at the expo at the end.
• Why does Rhodes take the MKII suit? He could have taken the III or IV, which are also in the line. Maybe he just prefers the silver one.

MCU movies in order of excellence because everybody loves lists.

Captain America Winter Soldier
Guardians of the Galaxy
Avengers
Iron Man
Iron Man 3
Ant-Man
Captain America
Thor
Avengers Age of Ultron
Incredible Hulk
Thor 2
Iron Man 2

I wouldn't say any of them are outright bad, just forgettable and bland towards the bottom of the list.

I would agree with that list.

A better question about Rhodes in IM2 would be to ask why and when he had the plastic surgery carried out, why did it change the sound of his voice and why does nobody appear to notice that he has a new face? This leads us to a scary question, all of his friends are rich, white and powerful and none of them noticed, is this Marvel trying to tell us that rich white men like Stark think all black people look the same, even if they are best friends? Would Stark even notice if the Hulk was replaced by the Jolly Green Giant?

It's to show how much on an arsehole Stark is, even though they're supposedly best friends he still can't tell black people apart so doesn't question when a con artist comes along and steals Rhodes' identity. All the scenes with "Rhodes" getting the suit upgraded by Hammer? A drunken hallucination of Stark's worst nightmare. At the end when they're batteling all the drone bots you'll notice that nobody actually talks to our even looks at Rhodes, that's because he was a figment of Stark's imagination, really the suit was remote controlled by Jarvis as a last ditch effort to help save his creator. Stark was Rhodes all along.

I bet Tony Stark doesn’t really exist either. Howard Stark had a secret supply of the Super Serum and has been using it on himself to stay young. He had to change his face slightly and pretend to be his own son (he killed the real Tony) to avoid suspicion.

That also explains his racist “they all look the same to me” attitude, he is a man from the 30s/40s not the present day.

Captain America Winter Soldier
Guardians of the Galaxy
Iron Man
Avengers
Ant-Man
Captain America
Iron Man 3
Avengers Age of Ultron
Thor
Thor 2
Incredible Hulk
Iron Man 2

Top 6 are all pretty great, IM3 to Thor 2 are decent if somewhat forgettable, Incredible Hulk and IM2 are a fair chunk worse than the rest.

Would 100% agree with this order and assessment.

IM2 is definitely the worst.

RDJ is apparently going to be in the Spider-Man reboot.

Robert Downey Jr., who plays the red and gold-armored Marvel character, has closed a deal to join the cast of Spider-Man: Homecoming, Marvel and Sony’s reboot of the web-crawling superhero, sources tell THR.

Tom Holland will star as Peter Parker/Spider-Man and is making his debut as the character in Civil War (and already garnering praise for his take on the role).

The movie establishes a key relationship between Tony Stark/Iron Man and Parker and Homecoming will continue that thread.

Michael Keaton won't be though.

Thoughts on Thor, I don't really have that many. Well directed and acted, but story lacked a bit of oomph.

• So the Frost Giants attacked earth in 965 AD. Presumably Thor and Loki weren't around then because they weren't taking part. I thought the Asgardians were meant to be thousands of years old. I guess they are only a couple of hundred years old.
• Chris Hemsworth is very charismatic as Thor, a good casting choice. Hiddleston is excellent as Loki. But I would have liked to seen Brian Blessed as Odin – an opportunity missed.
• I actually found a lot of the Asgard stuff a bit tedious, the Earth scenes were much more interesting.
