Some thoughts on both Avengers Assemble and Iron Man 3.

Avengers Assemble

• My biggest gripe about this film is where is War Machine (not a major issue for most, I concede)? Before it came out they said they would explain in the movie. They didn't. Then they said they would explain his absence in Iron Man 3. They didn't. Also, given the government hates Stark, why didn't they just get War Machine instead for his place, given he is exactly the same and is able to obey orders.
• I hate the whole concept of the helicarrier. I know it is from the comics, but it is so illogical. Flying in the air is so much more dangerous than being on the sea – especially when you are carrying nuclear weapons! And it didn't even help them stay undetected, Hawkeye knew exactly where they were.
• The Other tells Thanos at the end that to attack Earth is "to court death". If this is a reference to the character of Death appearing in Infinity War (who Thanos is in love with), I tip my cap to Marvel for setting something up so far in advance.

Iron Man 3

• I thought this film got over its main hurdle – how to do a movie where you are not thinking why doesn't he just call the rest of the Avengers for help – pretty well. But after he fakes his death, do SHIELD or any of the other Avengers really not care enough to check in to see what happened, or Avenge him?
• Was Killian's plan to make money by creating demand for his extremis weapons through use of the Mandarin. If so, that is such a lame motivation and stupid plan. He could have made much more money by using the extremis for commercial purposes (regrowing limbs, etc).
• Is the Iron Patriot suit the same suit as the War Machine armour from Iron Man 2? Because the Mark II is back in Stark's workshop at the start.

Yeah same, the moment the Inhuman stuff kicked off the show got real boring. And whilst a lot of this is down to strawberry floating awful additions to the cast it's hardly a great sign for something that they wanted to use to build hype for a movie.

Ticket booked for a midnight showing of Civil War on Thursday.
3D only though for some reason, the cinema don't seem to have any non-3D showings for at least a week.

Is the 3D version being released ahead of the normal version to bump up box office takings or something?

Not at Cineworld near me, just booked for 2D on Friday. There was an even amount of showings for each but as you say it might depend on cinema if they are bastards to bump up revenue.

I got 2D, our local cinema has 3 x 2D and 1 x 3D at 00:01

Seemed a bit excessive, never done a midnight showing so looking forward to it

I'm going Friday afternoon after being overlooked for the press screenings. They must have noticed I've only written two reviews in the last six months :shifty:

Must be just Showcase then, their website doesn't even list a non-3D version.

Apparently my showing is Thursday night, not Wednesday night. Cineworld's website is confusing and I dunno if it's my fault or if they're the idiots. Would people say this is Wednesday night going into Thursday, or Thursday going into Friday?

Seeing as the date is the 28th and Thursday is the 28th, I would say that is Wednesday night going into Thursday. If it's not, then Cineworld are idiots.

Looking at the times for my local Cineworld, they have showings listed at midnight on the 28th with the first showing on the 29th at 12:50pm. Don't they realise midnight is the start of a new day.

Yes! I thought I was going doolally. I phoned the customer service team and the guy was speaking to me as if I was an idiot for not realising that it's the Thursday night into the Friday.

Yeah that showing is clearly being advertised as Wednesday night/early Thursday morning, they need to update their site. I just checked my local Cineworld and it shows the same. I always assumed midnight showings are actually at 00:01 or 00:05 to avoid potential confusion over the date at midnight, although apparently that doesn't help if you're just an idiot.

Thats Wednesday night, my local cinema had the same problem with Star Wars, they had a 00:01 showing for it and so many people thought it was the Thursday night, she had to ring everyone who booked tickets to make sure they knew to show up on the Wednesday night. She was raging out behind the counter having to explain how dates work to everyone but I just found the whole thing kinda funny.

Given that neither Odeon or Vue have any showings until 00:01 on the 29th makes me think Cineworld do mean the 29th and not the 28th.

Showcase just have big bold text pointing out it's Thursday night going into Friday, but they also have a triple bill of all 3 Captain America films starting at 7pm.
I would've gone to that but I'll have been up since 5am Thursday for work and won't be home until gone 5pm. So just going to get home, have a few hours kip then go for the midnight show.

I posted on my local Cineworld Facebook page and they confirmed it is a mistake and the film is Thursday night, they are going to try and update the website.

lol after I read Coras post I was confused, "Why am I watching it on Midnight Thursday if it is out a day earlier" was going to check it out after work. But yeah that screen shot is totally wrong they are not selling as advertised, you should call them out on it

I've launched an e-mail of complaint to their website along with a cheeky request for some compensation aka free cinema tickets. I'm well pissed off about that.

Friday can't come soon enough, was tempted by a midnight showing but commitments means it wasn't really an option.
