DC has done it too, very well in fact during the 90s Knight Fall trilogy when Bane breaks Batman's back and a new Batman has to take over until Bruce recovered.

I'm sure the punisher also took over as captain America for a bit. But that could have been a Marvel What If story.

Wish my image sig would work

I don’t think the movies will leap into such outlandish territory. Although, we’ve had to suspend a fair amount of disbelief so far.

I don't think they'll get involved in resurrecting characters though. That's a slippery slope once you start doing that. Will completely take away from the shock of anytime they kill a character as the reaction will be "oh they'll just bring them back eventually".

I know that super hero comics have the same hero but different people but do they actually have other hero's picking up the mantel like you're suggesting with Cap? Have I got that wrong and you mean Bucky will literally become Captain America?

I mean he'll take on the persona. As Godzilla explained above, it has happened a lot in the comics and they signed Sebastian Stan onto a 9 picture deal when he came on board which suggests they're planning on keeping him around for awhile. Infinity War will only be his 4th film (I think).

Happens all the time just now in the comics.

Bucky and, most recently, Falcon have been Captain America
There's currently two Iron Men (a child genius called RiRi Williams and Dr Doom)
Jane Foster is currently Thor
Hulk is currently a teenager called Amadeus Cho
Frank Castle (Punisher) is War Machine just now too.

The Captain Marvel that's getting their own movie isn't the original Captain Marvel.

Can you see that happening in the films? My guess is that they will kill off a few big names and have them replaced by other characters in the Avengers, this will allow a few years to pass so that when they hit reset on the whole thing it won't be as jarring as we will have gone through a few films without the people they kill off.

Alternatively they just run it into the ground and use the actors for as long as they can.

Wild prediction alert - they kill off Spider-Man.
Nah not really - I reckon Loki’s gonna buy the farm, though.

A lot of people want the kid who helped tony stark in iron man 3 to become iron man. It will likely mean a bit of a gap if iron man gets killed off soon though due the characters age. Unless they go for teenage Iron man.

Hopefully it's Falcon that becomes the new Cap, Bucky's character arc is too fleshed out for it to be worthwhile and Sebastian Stan is a bit dull.

Cap's definitely kicking the bucket, feel like Black Widow might too given Scarlet Johansson has described seeing the new characters come in as "bittersweet" implying things are coming to an end for her. Although if she goes then that kind of leaves Hulk at a loss so maybe she'll just end up getting retired, seeing as she's mostly a Cap character anyway.

I would prefer Falcon to become Cap as well. Although would whoever takes over not need to be given a super serum injection?

I'm a bit undecided about Black Widow. There's always been hints of a solo film for her.

Cap is not dying in this one, he'll go out in the next one as that's his last contracted movie, I doubt they'll even introduce a new Captain America either, they'll just use Parker, T'Challa and Danvers as the main characters in the MCU after Avengers 4.

Stark will just stop, maybe turn up occasionally like Fury has been doing.

I reckon Thor and Vision will both die in this movie.

Can't see Thor dying as he needs to resettle Asgard somewhere. Vision for sure what with the infinity stone in his head. Hawkeye isn't in the trailer is he? Can see him getting bumped

Oh yeah, when I talk about deaths I'm thinking across both films. I agree Marvel doesn't need to rush into having a new Cap either, they have plenty of high profile heroes to carry the torch for now. Hopefully the emphasis is on Panther and Marvel rather than Strange just because it's Cumberbatch.

Maybe there will be some Time Stone nonsense and we'll get a new actor playing an older Thor ruling New Asgard?

Hawkeye is back for the forth one so he won't get bumped off this time round. I think he'll go in Avengers 4 though. Vision will almost certainly go in this one but will be brought back to life in 4.

Vision dying seems too obvious, especially given they showed a big moment in the trailer.

Hawkeye and Ant-Man are the main omissions from the trailer from what I can see.

Regarding Parker, I'm not sure they have a deal with Sony beyond 2 Spider-Man films + Civil War. Obviously that could change though, especially given the success so far.

Given that the Ant-Man sequel is out next year, he definitely won't be killed off. Although if it's true that the multiverse will be introduced in the Ant-Man sequel, this gives them an easy way of bringing characters back to life.

Ant-Man's in the trailer, you just can't see him

My curve ball:

Nick Fury dies, Tony hangs up the Iron Man suit and becomes SHIELD Director.
