I'd be surprised if it wasn't, given the trilogy approach to the big names they've undertaken so far.

What's the reason they would have to throw his script away? because they just don't want him tied to the project? or because he hadn't fully finished it and they think bringing someone else into finish it would potentially ruin the flow?

I also don't know how script writing works in hollywood. I assume Gunn would have been paid a lump sum for writing the script but as he was also down to direct it did it form part of his contract which they terminated etc..

They've cut working ties with him. If they used his script he'd have to have a credit on Vol. 3. It was inevitable really.

And how Marvel deal with the storyline post next Avengers. GotG3 was meant to deal with the fallout of that movie and set up the Cosmic movies, of which there are meant to be a lot. Maybe 2020 will be a Marvel free year.

The average moviegoer probably won't really know or care about Gunn, but if Bautista goes that's pretty huge.

They could probably get by. They have Groot and Rocket which sell all the toys. Maybe throw Thor in the team and then they just need 1-2 more characters. It will have to be delayed for sure though. No way they could find a director, rush a script through, and possibly recast by February 2019.

I would hope that James Gunn would try to convince Big Dave that he should stick around for the film. I really don't want the project to die.
