Pretty final. Same for Killmonger. Such a shame as those two were amoung the best villains in the MCU

in fairness I don't think they could have avoided it without compromising Kilmonger's character. He could have brought Klau in alive, but that wouldn't fit his established trait of "kill anyone who gets in the way", and once he'd put on the Panther suit there wasn't really any way of stopping him without fatally wounding him; choosing death over imprisonment was then consistent with his focus on the legacy of slavery and colonisation. It's definitely a shame they've both been killed off, but not doing so would have damaged Kilmonger's character in the bigger picture.

Very good points, well made. I'm still gutted though as they really were the best ever.

Normally don't bother much with block busters but the buzz over this made me go see it (also helped that I watched civil war on a plane ride ages back). Super glad I saw this. Can't believe they did 2 post credits though, a lot of people stayed for the first but we all got caught by the second credits. :fp:

Marvel pretty much always do two now, I think they have for almost all of their films since The Avengers. It's a bit of a pain, but something to keep in mind if you're willing to sit through the credits.

Yeah, they've done 2 credit scenes for ages, I'm surprised people don't know. Saying that, you missed absolutely nothing

Yeah the final scene was really disappointing in this. Only showed what we already knew.

There was no doubt that the Marvel superhero would conquer the B.O. for the second weekend; the only question was by how much. It’s only the 4th movie ever to score a second weekend with over $100M. The $111M for the weekend makes it the second highest second weekend ever, only trailing The Force Awakens’ $149M. It also pushes the movie over $400M domestically, third fastest to that mark behind only TFA and Jurassic World.

The numbers for this movie are just ridiculous. The 44% dropped from week to week helped in this regard. Now holds the record for second-week-grosser by the MCU, doing better than the original Avengers movies.

Black Panther's second weekend made 18 million more than Justice League's first.

Black Panther made more in 13 days worldwide than JL did in its global lifetime run.

This was great, definitely top tier for me but I think I preferred Thor 3.

One question, how does this work with the timeline:

I'd always assumed they go with T-Challa straight away. Otherwise how are they getting to Wakanda

But don’t we see T-Challa returning to Wakanda in Black Panther? The dialogue with his mother suggests that is the first time she’s seen him since his father’s death

The more I think about this film, the more I wonder if I'd rate it as my favourite MCU film over everything else. I really need to watch it again soon. I'd also need to rewatch several other films to re-confirm my top 3. It used to be Winter Soldier, Avengers, Guardians but the recent run of films may have just completely destroyed that ranking.

I must be literally the only person who felt this was average. It wouldn’t be anywhere near my top 5.

Incidentally just saw Thor Ragnarok and loved it. They shamelessly stole from Guardians in style and tone but who cares, it actually made me care about Thor and while I understand some may feel it went too far with comedy I thought it was great.

Still think winter soldier is my favourite though.

Black Panther surpassed $1 billion in worldwide box office on Saturday.

It is the first MCU film that does not have an appearance by Tony Stark to reach $1 billion worldwide.

The domestic gross of Black Panther is now 7th overall and exceeds that of The Dark Knight ($534,858,444), as well as the combined domestic gross of Justice League and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice ($228,977,297 and $330,360,194, respectively).

Beating Justice League AND Batman Vs Superman. :slol:

Finally watched BP last night and thought it was a great superhero movie. Up there with the best of the Marvel movies.

One thing that struck me afterwards, was that for all the talk of it being an important movie for Black/African people, just how many strong women there were in the film. From T’Challa’s mother and sister, to Michonne to Lupita Nyong’o to all of the unnamed female fighters. All of them were far more impressive warriors than T’Challa or Killmonger. :lol:

The best two characters were T’Challa’s sister and Andy Serkis. Both of them made me laugh my arse off.

Martin Freeman was horribly miscast. His American accent was pretty appalling and although I might have accepted him as a diplomat/spy, he certainly didn’t come across as a badass airforce pilot. :lol:

Michael B Jordan (why when typing that have I only just realised he is called Michael Jordan :lol:

) was a great villain. A completely misguided arsehole, but you could see why he was the way he was and why he would attempt to take over.

Boseman was decent but was outshone a bit by the other cast members (other than Freeman obviously!).

I am looking forward to BP2.
