Episode one (comics talk):

As soon as they showed a bunch of Irish dudes in a bar I knew what to expect, which killed the gag of it coming after a big speech for me
It's almost identical to one of the two Punisher comics I've read (max), name of the main dude even matches up :o

Grotto being actually important is hilarious

Non comics wise the Karen romance stuff is a bit awkward watching this right after the season one finale but I'll let it go as a consequence of the timeskip

I'm at the beginning of episode 4 and it's just spectacular so far. The whole of episode 3 is fantastic.

Finished it last night. Better than the first season and they'll be stupid if they don't do a separate series now.

3rd episode wasn't that good until the last 10 minutes where it went all Old Boy/The Raid.

The fight choreography is incredible.

Here's what I thunk FULL SPOILERS

So I finished this last night. But I really needed to sleep after binge watching so hard. Here's what I thought:

Overall a very strong follow up to season one. You could tell from episode one that there were confident in the foundations they had previously laid so they hit the ground running and didn't let up. There are so many stand out moments and even when it slows down a bit it was still captivating.

Charlie Cox still does a wonderful job portraying both sides of Matt and I feel without him and his chemistry with the cast a lot of this show would fall apart. Karen and Foggy are Karen and Foggy and a lot of people hate them but I think they are pretty good both for plot reasons and to add some much needed levity to all the grimdark.

As someone who had been lobbying for Bernthal to play Punisher for a long time I'm confident when I say he is absolutely the best Punisher we've seen on screen to date. Frank is an absolute beast and the terminator-like portrayal really sells that. They humanise him as much as they need to (the graveyard scene is a standout of the entire show) but don't recoil from the fact that he is a single-minded killing machine. The plot twist was super dumb and re-contextualized everything for the worse. What happened to Frank works because it was a random act of violence. Making it some grand conspiracy theory just dilutes it all way too much. I can handle the Reyes aspect of the cover up as 1) it could play into Frank taking the law into his own hands and 2) Her being killed should have been a Kingpin play. He takes out major players in his way paving the way for his return and uses Franks escape as cover to do that. They could have even alluded to the sniper as being Bullseye. But no we get some terrible 11th hour plot twist that is dumb and actually retroactively cheapens everything before it. Loved Finn Cooley showing face (lol)

I really enjoyed Elektra. She is gorgeous and played to perfection. Having her act as a toxic foil to Matt but also opening the door to all the weird Chaste/Hand stuff was excellently handled. In fact, I'm so glad they went all out on the Ninja stuff. People think its dumb but its a huge part of what Daredevil is about so I'm glad they didn't hold back. Oh yeah, Stick still stealing the show every time he is on screen. I didn't mind her being Black Sky as that is okay foreshadowing for her inevitable return. Killing her kinda steals the bite from when Bullseye does it though.

Kingpin coming back was amazing. I'm so happy that secret never got out and that little subplot was great and terrifying.

Cinematography was weaker and a bit dark but still a cut above most things on TV. Plus those fight scenes still the best. So glad they didn't dial down the kind of gruesome havoc the Punisher revels in.

One small thing I'll add is that I really enjoyed the scenes with Melvin Potter. They are just these underrated little scenes with some nice back and forth dialogue and I love all the Gladiator reference.

So yeah, loved it apart from the ending getting dumb and losing steam but damn they've set things up for a killer season 3 (Kingpin returns, Elektra and Bullseye please) and hopefully a Punisher MAX inspired mini-series.

Welcome back, Frank(WHY NO FRANK MINIGUN?!)

Finished Season 2 today in one sitting and so glad I did, t'was amazing. Can't wait for the next series if there is one, the fight scene in Episode 3 or 4 down the stairs was superb, so cool! Loved the long continuous shots. Wasn't expecting to see Fisk back so soon but was a great surprise.

Please let there be a Punisher series, I don't know much about his Universe but want to see more.

Seven episodes in now. Elektra is great. Jon Bernthal is so good. Hope to see Punisher back in action shotgunning fools in the face again soon.

End of series spoilers.

Was anyone else a bit disappointed that The Punisher was kept out of the action for so long after he went to prison?

I was kind of hoping he would return in an over the top fashion to help Daredevil and Elektra but it never really happened. :(

Episode 3. EPISODE 3.

Incredible storytelling, constantly playing with your emotions on which side to choose and then the ending! The show is far superior to any of the Marvel cinema universe output.

Also I want Daredevil game, think Phoenix Wright X Batman.

Just watched the first three episodes and it's been excellent so far.

Ironhide wrote:3rd episode wasn't that good until the last 10 minutes where it went all Old Boy/The Raid.

The fight choreography is incredible.

I didn't like the fight at the end of that episode. It tries to pretend it's one continuous shot but the cuts are really frequent and obvious and they keep zooming into doors and stuff for no reason other than to 'hide' the cuts. It was the same with the similar scene in season 1. They are a great idea but you either have to actually do it in one shot or the execution needs to be flawless if you're going to splice together afterwards.

The rest of the fight choreography is great and well above most other TV shows, but I don't think comparisons with The Raid are valid.

4 episodes in and enjoying it a lot. Daredevil is still doing that ridiculous spinning drop kick move, though. Is this something he does in the comics or is it just one of the stunt coordinator's favourite moves?

One of the things I like about this show is that it's an accurate representation of people's attitudes towards the disabled - or in this case, the seemingly disabled. This guy is empowered by his weakness, that is such a fundamentally strong concept. I mean, forgetting the fact that he literally is empowered by superpowers (pmsl lol etc etc), there are plenty of instances where he misunderstands it, or it comes too much for him to bear. Again, as both Matt and Daredevil.
Peoples attitudes towards Matt - not Daredevil - are interesting as well. The fact that he's blind, a lot of characters speak to him in a different way - a mollycoddle here, condescension there...it's very interesting, and something that I personally can relate to a lot.
Well written, shot and acted, it's the quintessential superhero TV series. It puts the half dozen out there already to absolute shame.

Up to the end of episode 3. Best episode yet from either series. I'm no Punisher aficionado but they seem to have nailed his tone pretty well.
