The critics were always going to go in on a negative, because the lead was changed to an American and not American-Asian. There was a backlash months before this aired, when the lead was cast.

Is the comic book Iron Fist half Asian then?

I thought he was originally white though I've no idea if that has changed in newer iterations of the character.

Comic book Iron Fist is a white American like he is in the show (the character was created in the 70s during the height of blaxploitation and kung-fu movies in the US). Back when this show was first announced people were wanting the lead to be Asian or Asian-American because the idea of a white American being a kung-fu expert was racist and whitewashing, while completely failing to see the irony of thinking a kung-fu master should automatically be Asian because apparently no one else is allowed to do martial arts. The fact he's a white American is actually a pretty big part of his character in the comics too, and it was obvious 99% of the people moaning hadn't even read the comics.

People had their knives out for this show before they had even seen it because of the dumb idea that they never got the Asian actor in the main role that they wanted. Pretty pathetic if reviewers let that affect their opinion of the quality of the show. Up to episode 6 so far and it's perfectly fine, some of the shite that's been written about it is ridiculous.

Yeah, that's pretty much what I'm seeing from everywhere else.

So stupid.

I think I'm up to episode 10 or 11 and the pacing has been pretty good, up until now at least. Hopefully it doesn't take a dive in the next few instalments.

It isn't doing anything particularly ground breaking I guess, which would be about the only negative point I could make. I'm really liking all of the characters, even the evil guys.

I'm not really sure what the point of getting reviewers in to review a netflix show, especially in the case of these Marvel ones. People will watch them regardless and the word of mouth will do the rest.

And not meaning to degrade Jessica Henwick because her character is maybe my fav... but Colleen Wing in PJs

Iron Fist 101.

Thanks  Ordered!

It's basically just batmans origin story with a bit of Lara craft survival thrown in.

I'd say he's more like Green Arrow than Batman, probably less murderous than Mr Queen though.

Just finished and it was much more compelling to watch than Luke Cage.

Same here. I've been really enjoying it and it's definitely nowhere near as bad as some of the reviews have been saying. Have these critics never actually watched truly bad TV?

They seemingly require everything to be intellectually challenging and/or feature some kind of commentary about race/gender/sexuality inequality before they can lavish it with praise.

That might be slightly exaggerated but you get that impression sometimes.

Finished this yesterday, and personally I think it's my fav of the Netflix shows (not that it's really possible to rank them all because they all do their own things and come with different strengths and weaknesses as a result). Really don't know how this got such terrible ratings, even those early preview episodes were good.

I liked how they made Danny a little childlike because of what happened during that time in his life. He reminded me of Buddy from Elf at certain points

Colleen and Ward were really good. I thought Ward was going to the typical dickhead villain but in the end I felt sorry for him. I did feel that Colleen was just an Elektra 2.0 though. Joy didn't do much for me, another weak female.

Like all the other Netflix shows they've got the best villains and you can understand the reasons for why the way they are. Gao is so good. Whenever she turns up in these shows she steals the scenes for me.

The drunken master was so weird. Especially his accent. I totally missed what he was actually saying because I was too busy trying to figure out what was going on with his voice. I think Australian/Oceania area?

I wish for the last episode of these seasons they condensed it down to a one shot after credits like sequence though. They seem to spend far too much time after the villain is defeated doing nothing. I was really expecting them to shoehorn in The Defenders set up here and I am glad they didn't.

Not as good as Jessica jones and Luke cage but sort of entertaining . The main actor does not look like a bad ass. With his boy band hair cut ...they strawberry floated up on that bit .

Enjoyed first episode, don't know much about him other than popping up in Avengers comics. Bloody hell is the start similar to Arrow though :slol: Looking forward to watching the lot.
