That's one of her powers.

Do you often contemplate the complexity of life?

She's super strong in JJ as well, it's just not something that's really touched upon too heavily because she doesn't like the idea of being a superhero. They haven't got into how she got her powers yet in the series. In the comics she was a superhero called Jewel for a while I think.

She got superhuman strength when she was in a car accident involving a truck transporting chemicals as a kid.

I'd probably go watch JJ if I were you but...

Jessica got her powers after the accident that killed her parents. It's implied some shady group used her as a test subject whilst in hospital. She hates the idea of "heroes" so as far as she is concerned she is just a PI who just so happens to be super strong. She does not want her abilities to define who she is and what she does, hence her mocking Daredevil and his suit. There is also the aspect of her powers being one of the reasons she was violated in the past.

You owe it to yourself to watch JJ, for me it's second only to Daredevil.

DD1 >DD2=JJ >> LC = IF = Def

For me I can't place the latter 3 as they each have good and bad aspects. LC starts brilliantly but falls apart midway through, Def doesn't feel consistent enough and has weak ending and IF has poor villains and weak choreography but strong secondary characters. I know people love to hate IF but I actually found it more watchable than LC.

But basically these series are defined by their villains. Kingpin, Punisher, Electra, Killgrave are all superbly developed and hold your attention.

Cottonmouth is good but Diamondback is terrible, I struggle to even remember the villain in IF, Baku maybe? But he's so poorly developed I can't be sure. Alexandra is equally undeveloped in defenders.

Eh... She's probably the third most annoying part of Defenders behind ginger girl and Iron First (he is seriously gooseberry fool, he literally does nothing of note). I also really dislike the actress in general.

For anyone who has skipped any that haven't appealed to them, or simply forgot what happened, then here's a rundown of each of the 4 separate shows leading in to The Defenders

Spoilers (for them) obviously

Watch JJ and you will understand the character more, she isn't a costumed happy go lucky hero. She's a damaged heavy drinking woman with a strong moral code but no inclination to be a hero. If your only experience is from her part in defenders then I understand why you don't like her.

And when I say JJ is second only to DD I mean the series not the character.

And Luke Cage continues to be the best Netflix show.
