This is the main problem.

On the one hand I want the indoctrination theory to be true because...well...the alternative is that what we got really was the ending.
On the other hand, I don't want it to be true because, as you said, Bioware knowingingly and willingly left the ending off the disc to force you to get it later on. Even if they release it as free DLC, what about all the people who don't have their Xboxs/PS3s online? How are they supposed to get it?

Maybe i'm giving Bioware too much credit, but i wonder how much of that would be EA's doing? Would Bioware blatantly shaft their fans like that by holding off the 'real' ending as DLC? Did EA not give them enough time? Given the scale of the game and the choices and variables they had to implement - how long did they get to work on the game? Either way though, i'm not sure what annoys me more, the fact that Hudson and Walters thought this ending would be a good idea or that after spending some £60 on the Collectors Edition and 100's of hours on the games, i'd potentially have to buy DLC to be able to get the proper ending to the trilogy.

And yeah, in ME1, the Rachni Queen mentions about 'Oily Shadows'..

If they're going to release any DLC for the ending they might as well re-write the whole ending from the run to the beam of light onwards, admit they strawberry floated up, give it away for free and put plans in motion for the next game.

I guess I must be pretty close to the end now. Well I better be after 30 hours.

The whole mood in the Normandy now is rather sour, Shepard seems to be taking being beaten by Kai Leng a little bit too personally. Though why Leng had better shields than a Reaper I'll never know.

Actually, if they've got any sense, they'll release the "ending" for free, but add extra scenes that unlock only if you own and finish any planned ME3 DLC.

The thing about "indoctrination" is that it seems as though it would pick up shortly after Shepard is hit by the beam, and everything that occurs between being hit and the ending would be passed off as a dream sequence in which the Reapers are attempting to indoctrinate him.

Which would work. So well, infact, that it's difficult to believe that isn't what they had planned from the getgo, aside from the colossal marketing snafu.

There's a blink and you'll miss it part (well I did first time) with the boy before the vent scene. You see him run into the house, the door closes and then the house explodes due to the laser beam or whatever it is. I thought that was pretty neat anyway.

What the strawberry float. Why is Sovereign the Reaper vanguard then if the Catalyst lives in the Citadel and can effectively perform the same functions and more? Damn, they really messed that one up.

Yeah I mentioned about that a few pages back. I don't care that the ending isn't happy, what annoys me most is the plot holes LIKE it contradicting the vast majority of ME1. Why Hudson and Walters didn't discuss plans for the ending with the rest of the team I don't know. That said, Hudson's been working on ME since the beginning - surely he must have known how little sense the Catalyst bit made?

I dunno...parts of that sound like the 'children of the stars' were just a bit bumpain.

It's better than the real ending though.

It's the closing two paragraphs that really get it right. Most of it is pretty dull to be honest, but as soon as the "You're scared" line appears it rapidly supersedes Bioware's attempt.

Absolutely. Most of it is just a clearer idea of what the difference between the 'Control, Synthesis and Detroy' endings actually mean, but as soon as he fights back against those choices and it all descends into the out and out war that LITERALLY EVERY SINGLE PERSON PLAYING WANTED TO SEE then it becomes incredible.

The bit with the child was okay, but I loved his bit about the battle. I still can't understand why after three games of build up and recruiting - we didn't get to see a proper epic battle cutscene. The stuff he described - the Destiny Acension, Geth, Wrex, Garrus, etc that's exactly what I wanted to see in one giant epic cutscene - us against the Reapers and how well we do depending on the war assets we built up. As I said, after 3 games, 100's of hours, all that time spent recruiting, i think the vast majority of ME players wanted to see things come to an end with one final huge battle.

I can only assume (and in a way hope) that things like the epic battle scene were held back for the ending DLC. Where Shepard wakes up to find the battle is still ongoing.

We're not petitioning them to change the ending you massive tool. We are asking for AN ending, just one. Not even multiple endings. People would be happy with just a single ending at this point.

Go and choke on Bioware's cock you massive waste of space.

He says don't buy it as a solution. He probably was one of the people who gave it a [10] :fp: jesus christ.

Love how he's pretty much directly contradicting himself, as pointed out here http://www.forbes.com/sites/erikkain/20 ... e-endings/

It's pretty sad to see that the stance of pretty much all the major gaming site is with Bioware rather than their own readers. Good to know where their allegiances lie, but I can't say I'm shocked, what with all those EA advertising dollars and all that

Also, I'd definitely recommend reading the other articles on the whole ME3 fiasco on Forbes. They don't live under the fear of pissing off EA by badmouthing them, and as a result they've pretty much been the only site handling this whole situation well.

I was under the impression that IGN especially have pretty much whitewashed the whole thing. The fact that one of their staff-members is featured in-game has nothing to do with this.

It's the hugely condescending tone that really sets that video apart though. He calls the facebook petition pathetic while forgetting to mention it's also raised over $70 000 for charity. He uses the old "if you don't like it, don't buy it" excuse without explaining how this works when the bit you don't like comes after 30 hours of stuff you do like. The one other video he cuts to is a parody of sterotypical videogamers rather than one of the hundreds of well reasoned real videos out there. He comes across like the biggest twat imaginable.

I'm actually amazed IGN allowed that video released, disclaimer or no.

Some unused dialogue from the end of the game that someone on reddit found in the audio files http://www.reddit.com/r/masseffect/comm ... _spoilers/ Makes the game sound even more rushed. God knows what else would have been cut if It met its original release date last year :fp:

I've been poking around the audio files and this is what I have found so far. Also the lines are not in order.
Sounds to me that Joker was originally supposed to show up and save the day. These lines of dialog are in the same file as the dialog of Shepard screaming to run in the deleted scene.
Joker: scoff I wasn't going to let you guys take all the credit.
Anderson: Joker, good timing.
Anderson: Joker, are you a sight for sore eyes.
Joker: Now get the hell on there so we can end this.
Joker: ah late to the party but the girls are coming home with me.
Joker: Just make sure EDI gets back in one piece.
Joker: That was for Cortez. <- I guess he can die?

A lot more at the link. Some of the stuff that was cut is just :x From the sounds of things Jack, Jacob, Zaeed, Grunt and the Geth were originally there in person for the final battle.
