God, a Mass Effect themed Darkstar One/X-Wing big budget interstellar flight sim would be incredible. Why not do that, rather than another COD style online game?

It's like the games industry has no imagination :(

The more I think about it, the better it sounds.

Weapon customisation like ME1, multiple races as factions, biotics/tech like perks.

Imagine playing the first contact war from a first person perspective..

I would like to see Mass Effect 3 coming out this generation because I know I can't afford a brand new generation console just to play ME3. :(

It would be a perfect fanfare to the 360.

They already said that the Trilogy will be playable on the 360 so I'm sure you have no reason to worry. We have 5 years of the 360 left at least.

5 years? Blimey. I thought it would be two years for a new xbox, but here's hoping!

Well you have the overlap too. With a new console in 2 or 3 years, you can add a few more onto the current console.

New screenshot! This time it's of a crosshair seemingly targetting a women/mum reaching for a young child... :o

I'd love it to be a Mass Effect 3 reveal(though as if i'm not hyped for ME3 enough as it is already  ) i still personally think it's gonna be some sort of ME spin off coming out in 2011, then ME3 coming in 2012.

And we thought BioWare made such nice games. A new image confirmed to be from the studio's secret new blockbuster - obtained by CVG - suggests that its next epic may be grittier than anything it's produced before.

The image, which you can see right here, depicts crosshairs from a first-person perspective. Shockingly, as you look closer, you realise they are aimed squarely at a seemingly defenceless woman - reaching out to a fallen child.

Rumours abound that BioWare's new title is the latest addition to the Mass Effect universe - or even Mass Effect 3. The studio will finally unveil the game in full this weekend at the Spike VGAs in Los Angeles (4am Sunday morning UK time).

The US source that leaked the image to CVG told us: "I won't spoil it for everyone by telling you what the game is. But it's going to have a lot of hardcore BioWare fans jumping out of their seats."

CVG approached EA and asked if the game to be revealed on Sunday at this year's VGAs was part of the Mass Effect canon.

The publisher conceded that the image was a still from the trailer but would "not comment on rumour and speculation" surrounding the exact nature of the game.

BioWare gave us the first taste of its new game last month with a blink-and-you'll-miss-it teaser for the VGA reveal. A short video showed a marine-like gunman aiming down the sights of his weapon.

We noted at the time: "The unannounced game looks more like a modern shooter than Mass Effect 3, so perhaps the Dragon Age dev plans to introduce its trademark RPG elements to the Call of Duty genre."

Could Mass Effect be getting bleaker than ever before? Or does BioWare having something all-new up its sleeve to wow us with? All will be revealed this weekend...

Definately Mass Effect.

They're ME crosshairs if ever I saw them.

Perhaps ME3 explores Shephards past. Perhaps that's him and his mum.

I think the 2nd one dips its toes into some murky waters at times, to be fair. If it continues a bit of grit mixed together with typical space operatics then all the better, I say.

Hmmm, i wonder, maybe it's a scene from a Reaper attack on a planet (hence all the destruction). Maybe that dude from the other screenshot is trying to protect the family in the new screenshot from something?? Perhaps Reaper indoctrinated slaves or something?

Yeah, there are darker undertones to much of Mass Effect, which is welcome as it would be easy for the whole enterprise to descend into camp otherwise.

Joystiq has learned from a trusted source that BioWare's enigmatic teaser from last month represents the first glimpse of Mass Effect 3. As many have guessed, the third installment looks to feature something brand new to the series: multiplayer. We're currently unable to confirm that the multiplayer component will be part of the game's unveiling at the upcoming Spike Video Game Awards.

The Spike VGAs will air this Saturday night, preceded by a good deal of internet speculation brought on by the above teaser image. As spotted by one of our commenters, Arth Vader, the gun above looks exactly like the M-29 Incisor Sniper Rifle from Mass Effect 2. BioWare has also blasted out curious QR codes via its Twitter feed, all of which indirectly reference things from the Mass Effect universe, including the Vostok system and the surface temperature of the planet Aequitas.

So, who's ready for more Mass Effect? Do we even need to ask?

If they are announcing Mass Effect 3 at the VGA's, i'm a little surprised they're announcing it a month or so before ME2 comes out on the PS3.

With this being the trilogy finale, i really hope they take their time and they aren't being rushed with this - if it means we get a epic end to the trilogy i wouldn't mind if ME3 doesn't come out until 2012

Mass Effect 3 will have multiplayer? I thought Bioware were making a separate title for multiplayer?
