So, after the outcry in this thread, who wants a big CTF game on Halo 3? Screw lists, just invite everyone you know, then they invite everyone and on goes the chain all afternoon.

I totally do this thing called StreetPass UK and it's real good like.

What is your NAT setting?

I just read, that apparently Australia and new zealands gears of war matchmaking is terrible! and of course no ones bothered to release a patch :fp:

An I also add the point of ranked vs player matches to the debate? I prefer to play online with people I know and therefore have to avoid ranked matches.

When I do occasionally played ranked matches with unknown, there's little banter, fun or teamplay as it's all about the win or the points.

A good "quick fix" is probably just to set your 360 to pretend it's from a region that doesn't suck.

Gears of War 2 can be slow to match make, at times. I find if I have left it searching for more than a couple of minutes then it's best just to restart the search, because it will often never find enough players/another team. So try doing that, works for me. Also, make sure the correct ports are open on your router, that will help things too.

Ario wrote:It's a funny one, with matchmaking there's no bias towards player preferences, no skill unbalance and it's (when done correctly, Halo 3 still remains king of this) seamless.

I'd agree Halo 3 does have the best 'matchmaking' system out there, but it's still terribly flawed. There's no rules to how the players will be teamed up once they have been found, so often you will be in a game where one team has highest skills 50, 50, 49, 48, 47 for example, and the other will have 46, 45, 45, 44, 44. It just ends up being completely unbalanced and unfair. The other major flaw is that it only takes into account highest skill, and not your % of games won/lost etc. This means I can effectively never play a ranked game, just social, and be constantly put against other low skill players, even if I've played 10,000 games and won every single one of them the matchmaking system will continue to put me against other players with a similarly low 'highest skill', who by the vast majority, are absolutely rubbish at the game. x

Exactly.

I'd love to just go on Halo and sit on CTF Valhalla and Avalanche all day but the Big Team Playlist stops me from doing that.

Yep! CTF on Blood Gulch was strawberry floating amazing. On PC I had no problems just finding a game like that or similar. On Halo 2? Good luck to you!

coming from PC gaming to the world of xbox live i couldnt figure this out either. Frankly it still baffles me. Its like on pc, if i want a game of DOD or CS, ill fire it up, open the server browser, look for a server running a map i want to play, and join. On live you have to sit around for 5 minutes gathering parties and then hope they choose a gametype and a map you actually like. Just another drawback to not having dedicated servers i guess

And you get to pay for the privilege! ;)

We should migrate GRcade to Flarum. :toot:
