One fan completely remade the intro from the original game using Unreal Engine 4? The result?

Nothing really to see here :shifty: but I just saw this, a video that has been put together recreating the opening sequence from Metal Gear Solid on the PlayStation. It doesn't go as far as the gameplay, it's literally a recreation of the opening cinematic.

This is one of my fav games of all time. I remember reading about it in magazines in the years leading to it's launch. I used to imagine what the game would be like  and then one day it was on a PlayStation magazine demo disc  I must have played that 100s of times

Originally I had planned to get it on PC as I didn't have a PlayStation at the time, then the PC version got cancelled... I obviously ended up diverting my N64 savings to a PlayStation fund instead :datass:

The Twin Snakes remake kind of filled the empty void left after the original, but it was never as good in my eyes. I could get past the OTT cinematics that they added, but adding the mechanics from MGS2 without balancing the original games level design for those new mechanics ending up breaking it by making it far too easy.

I'm one of those people who despise remakes, but I would totally love either a reimagined game balanced for new gameplay elements or a faithful recreation of the original to support modern day screen resolutions.

I’ve never really enjoyed any of the other Metal Gear games other than this one. The early Metal Gear games I haven’t really played, I hated MGS2 and didn’t give MGS3 enough time to know if I liked it or not. I didn’t bother with the series after that, although I do have MGS5 sat on my PS4 hard drive.

I loved MGS though, I remember it taking a little while to click with me and when it did I was obsessed. Such a fantastic game.

Like you the original is the only one I would want to play again.

MGS2 was overhyped (by myself) and while it was a good game, and probably the MGS title I spent the most hours playing (those dogtags :x ) I don't care for it much.

MGS3 I stopped playing after about an hour and it took years before I went back to it, playing it on easy just so I could get the story of the game. MGS4 was the same, I made a speedrun of that one with zero stealth.

I haven't played any of the modern games.

None of them have really captured the 90s action/stealth movies in the same way that the first game did.

I have only actually played Twin Snakes, not the original :shifty: Although I think you can count the MGS4 flashbacks and Ground Zeroes MGS mission too right?

The entire series is brilliant though and you're both missing out! Especially on MGS3 which is the best in the series and one of the best games ever made imo.

I’ve only been mean about MGS2. I am sure MGS3 is great, but I remember loads of bollocks about what snakes to eat and what camouflage to wear and I just couldn’t be arsed continuing.

A stunning first game. So sad that the sequels (bar 5 to an extent) turned into convoluted bilge so far up their own asses they raped themselves into oblivion.

Kojima is the most over rated dev dude in History. The way his fans talk about him is borderline retarded.

He works on odd numbers.

1, 3 & 5 were good. 2 & 4 weren't.

I found 1 & 5 to be the right balance of mental. 3 was over the top but it was tongue in cheek and I liked the setting and style.

2 took itself too seriously and 4 was just fully insane.

I’m expecting this to get another remake at some point during the next generation.

1 - great game for its time
2 - fantastic, gets a lot of undeserved hate because people didn't get to play as big gruff manly Snake for most of the game
Twin Snakes - one of the best remakes ever, made the original irrelevant to me
3 - exceptional
4 - bought a PS3 just for this game, glad I did because I absolutely loved it. Fan service up the wazoo, so many incredible cut scenes
Peace Walker - great example of how to do a handheld version of a big console game but I didn't really enjoy it playing the rerelease on the Xbox 360
5 - gameplay was phenomenal and it was a great technical achievement, but strawberry floating hell the story took a nosedive with the bait & switch shite and the fact it was literally unfinished really changed my opinion of the game

4 > 3 > 2 > Twin Snakes > 5 > Peace Walker > 1

I think remakes are the future of the series, photo realistic remakes of 1, 2, 3 and 4 will see Konami good for the next decade.

I think a lot of the complaints about 2 miss the point of the game

Also 4 is a great game and a fitting finale to the series. So many climatic and iconic moments to ever judge it poorly

I wouldn't recommend going back to the original now. I doubt that has aged well (I haven't played it myself since the remake). The Twin Snakes is the best version for anyone playing that story now for the first time

An ordered list is really hard because they do different things better than each other. MGS3 is the only game that I'd comfortably put top, after that it would depend on how I'm judging it.

3 > 2 > GZ > TS > 5 > 4 > PW > Rising > PO(+)

Never played more than 15 minutes of the original Metal Gear games and not played either of the Acids or Survive

You just reminded me how brilliant Acid was. If you haven't played it I think it's definitely worth it.

Twin Snakes is the only Metal Gear game I've never played, I'd like to play through it as some of the cutscenes look hilarious. Snake's reaction when Baker tells him he forgot Meryl's frequency is brilliant.

You should play through the original, I think it holds up pretty well. It's still my favourite game ever.

2 was probably my most hyped game ever, I must have played through the demo 100s of times. It gets a lot of undeserved hate, it's a great game and way ahead of its time.

I remember trying to play Portable Ops Plus but the controls were dreadful.

I've played most of the main series (so 1, 2, 3, 4, GZ and 5) so far and for the most part they are wonderfully whacky superb games. If I were ranking them it'd probably go like this,

3, 1, 4, 2, 5/GZ (group these together as they do tie in and I think if the pressure wasn't for Konami/Kojima it'd have all been one game). I did enjoy 5/GZ for its gameplay but I felt the story left a lot to be desired (more so 5 than GZ). I've always regretted not getting a copy of Twin Snakes as it did look great.

I'm kind of hoping there'll be some sort of remastered complete collection out at some point in the future but who knows?,
