I think the reason some of these limited editions are selling out so fast, is because of eBay, and people snapping them up to sell on at a profit.

I guarantee you they'll be hundreds of these things on eBay when the game comes out...Experienced traders set up multiple accounts with the likes of Nintendo store so they can get around the one per customer rules. Scum!

I think that's right, Gecko. I recall reading, a few years back when Nintendo weren't flavour of the month, that they did set a business goal of only producing enough stock to meet orders; they wanted to avoid losses on over-production and the costs associated with storing stock. It may be the case that, as they've become more popular, they need to ramp up that production approach for many items... but they have seemingly been reticent to do so. I don't expect them to change their approach any time soon :) .

Green Gecko wrote:...I normally don't take up on this sort of thing at all, and I think it's best to just forget about the limited stuff and focus on the games, that normally have plenty of copies about.

Yeah, I rarely choose anything other than standard editions now as, quite often, I find the "collectors" versions to be dreadful in terms of the poor-quality tat that they include. The Ghost Recon Wildlands one, which had a particularly weird skull and some awful-looking headphones, was probably peak tat  .

One of the saints row games had a $1 million edition and you got a car with it. May have been The Third.

Did you keep it sealed, Pedz?

I'm liking how Nintendo seem to be keeping it relatively tat free and without insane box sizes etc. Things that are easy and quite tasteful to display, which is why I like this one. Anything more than 40-50% on top of the base game (that, ultimately, is just a license anyway) is obscene and I really laugh at some of the completely absurd collectors editions out there.

£60 for a collectors edition isn't that bad, when you consider I probably paid the equivalent of £70 or more for Smash Bros on the N64 back in the day. :dread: Of course, it's much more easily justifiable when you consider plain copies of games like Paper Mario TTYD, Zelda and Twin Snakes in my collection go for £40+ each. That only happens with Nintendo. It's a bit mad, but the real reason is they hold up so well - thanks to 60fps or generally stable framerates, good animation etc. and generally decent quality gameplay. I can't think of many games I have that I would sell because they are worth money but bad games. They just aren't there.

Edit: I wonder if the pin is actually gold. If it's not too big, I might actually wear that as a collar piece at weddings etc because why the strawberry float not.

I would literally pay an extra two pounds for an edition that included a colour manual. Nothing exotic - no weird skulls, plastic statues or crappy headphones - just a decent manual. I always prefer having the controls shown on paper in front of me than to delve into on-screen menus to work out what the buttons do.

I'm with you on that...I miss the days of manuals, not just with the instructions but with cool artwork, back stories, maps and everything else... :(

Saw this the other day and meant to post-it.

strawberry float off with that gooseberry fool. Especially as even if I did have all four of the Amiibo, I don't have (Or intend to buy) a NEW 3DS with the NFC built in.

Don't care about the sound-test, extra energy tank or missile, but locking off a harder difficulty mode! It's dampened my enthusiasm for it somewhat. banana splits.

Yeah I don't care about in-game upgrades like that but hard mode is a bit of a dick move.

I am getting both the amiibo (rinsing any disposable income provided I actually get it in time for release) and already have the Smash version of Samus thanks to secret santa.. but I can't afford a New 3DS. It's going to be really tough for me to justify a New 3DS (even though I broke my microphone) with games like Splatoon 2 out for Switch.. I will just want to save for that.. it's a pretty shitty thing to do for existing 3DS owners of which there are hundreds of millions(?)

I may pick up a new 3DS way down the line when it's cheap but it's super hard to justify, the 3DS XL was already a very nice bit of hardware and I really enjoy mine, even just willying about on the menus.

:o . Does the game need a New version of the 3DS? I'd thought it was for all 3DS models.

FAKE EDIT: Yeah, the product description on Amazon says "Compatible with 3DS, 3DS XL, 2DS, New 3DS, New 3DS XL and New 2DS XL consoles"

EDIT: Do'h! I get it! You mean amiibo access! You could just get the amiibo adapter, though, rather than a whole new console?

Yeah but even that is just another buy-in for a difficulty mode.

I've never bothered playing Metroid on hard to be honest so this doesn't really affect me. :shifty:

That reminds me, I need to get one of those Amiibo emulators and then just download all the Amiibo files.

You can also buy the chips mined from amiibo and I think they get cloned too on eBay.

I'm gonna wait for reviews on this one. As I have a Switch, I'm largely using that for anything new that's Nintendo but could be swayed if reviews are good.

As I've also got a SNES mini on order, the fab-looking Legendary Edition is out of the question (too expensive for me).

I'm playing Metroid: Other M at the moment. My, my Samus is a little angst-y in this, isn't she?

It's a much more fluid game and I actually find quite difficult. Unfortunately I got stuck and didn't progress just a couple of hours in - I might be able to appreciate the game a lot more on a telly about twice the size over HDMI (in Wii U), so I'll give it another go at some point.

Exactly what I'm doing. My Samsung KS7000 is doing a really good job of not making the Wii emulator via Wii U look like arse. It's held up really well.

I also got stuck on it back in 2010. If I reach that point again with no joy, I'll youtube it. Seems a shame to leave a game of this quality unfinished especially as it's a Metroid game (of sorts).

For me Other M is an unfairly maligned game. It's on the poorer end of the Metroid spectrum for sure, but it's still a solid game, despite its departures from the series non-linear heritage. Coming after the Prime Trilogy really hurt it to be honest, as people were hoping for something that was as epic and well made as those games.

If it had came first I think it would have been more warmly received.

I liked it. It's nowhere near the Prime games in terms of quality, but I liked the core gameplay well enough.

The characterisation and plot are awful, but that's only part of the picture. It has some nice references to previous Metroid titles, especially some of the bosses. I certainly feel that it was unfairly shat on by everyone.
