It seems like a shitty law to be honest - the AM2R guys arent profiting off of it...

It's like, what if i drew a cute pikachu picture for a friend, and nintendo came, took it off me and then tore it up, declaring it illegal. That's what i think this is akin too. Maybe its more complicated (prolly is)... stuff like this makes me hate Nintendo (and specifically reggie) even more. I dont know whats going through the minds of the people when doing this, it's a labour of love no?

Though going on Twitter theres so many people that are defending nintendos decision so idfk whats going on.

It does suck that they stopped them. But Nintendo have always been like that with their IP.

As for letting them get so far, it could be they weren't aware of it until it started getting some attention. I also assume it's takes some time for the legal team to craft a response.

Ultimately it boils down to them having their own remake of M2 in the works though so I understand why they shut it down. At least it got a release before it was killed. It'll just take a little bit of digging to find it now is all. Same with Pokémon Uranium.

Check out some of our stuff!

That right there is the silver lining, Nintendo have to assert their IP rights, if they dont defend them then they can lose them as I understand it. By at least waiting until the fan project is released before shutting it down theyre letting the game out there for people to play while still defending their IP rights.

So instead of taking my payment information just say the strawberry floating thing isn't in stock/available on the product page.

Only bothered because Nintendo's e-mails don't work for me, ever. But strawberry float Game. They're a waste of time 90% of the time.

You on Twitter? Set a notification for Nintendo U.K, they'll tweet when it's available and it'll notify you straight away.

Game twitter is hilarious. Also what is this new useless "maybe offensive" / spoiler button on Twitter?

Yeah that sucks.

I've dropped separate orders legacy edition and each amiibo. Almost 100 snoops :dread:

I can barely justify this as an investment seeing as Nintendo stuff is so good at holding its value but never spent that money on any kind of limited things.

I just think Metroid is nintendos coolest and most under appreciated franchise.

Wasn't bothered about the Samus amiibo but I really wanted the squishy Metroid and then they would be to scale. I have the smash Samus amiibo but would feel bad about selling it to fund this as it was a secret Santa. I'd like to think it's the same thing in spirit, though.

I've got 2 months to decide whether to keep the amiibo preorders.

I'll consider 4 quid postage security on a loan of maybe buying something. :fp:

Does anywhere else have the double pack as that's probably cheaper? Maybe it was only in the US.

I've gone with the standard version from Nintendo store as I want the T-shirt more than the stuff with the Legacy Edition and it's cheaper than Amazon.

Yeah, the t-shirt would have been cool to have with the legacy edition.

The speed at which this, amibo and the SNES have sold out (all within a matter of hours) is incredible - for the average Joe Blowjob who isn't sat in front of a phone or computer all day, what chance have they got. They have to pay the inflated ebay prices if they want one.

Indeed there are Google tracking values in the email link so they may use that to free up some stock if you visit via that link.

The email actually came through to me this time, unlike SNES mini. But I found out via here anyway thanks to Floex, as my inbox doesn't notify me for stuff tagged as promotions (Google Inbox).

Glad I decided to place my pre-orders now, I can chase down some business to pay for a treat for myself. Otherwise no chance either way!

I've given up on Nintendo's methods of making stuff available; just haven't bothered with even trying to get this Legacy Edition. I've not bothered with the recent batches of amiibo, either - I would have liked some of the Zelda ones and definitely the Bayonetta ones, but I'm not gonna spend hours (days) hitting refresh and trying to place a pre-order.

I've wanted to cut back on gaming expense and now, thanks to Nintendo, I am :) .

It wasn't really like that to be fair, probably because Metroid isn't as popular. I just visited the link Floex posted about 45 minutes later and was able to put through an order immediately and got the confirmation e-mail immediately. So I think they sold out in about an hour rather than 6 minutes like SNES that everyone and their dog would "like" to have (but will probably sell 50% of them).

Nothing like the shitshow that is Game.

I dunno, GG - the game isn't out until September but the limited edition sold out in an hour? I feel that Nintendo is deliberately under-supplying the market to (a) encourage pre-ordering, and (b) discourage pre-order cancellation. The amiibo situation has been worse but, hey, I guess that's a topic for another thread :) .

Of course, that's just business - and it's paying off, as folk are desperate to pre-order immediately! - but, personally, I've grown tired of it and am now spending more money on PlayStation stuff than Nintendo stuff.

I blame myself for following the pre-order thing this time, that I hardly ever do. I think the last two games I pre-ordered were Zelda for WIi U and Spaltoon 2 years ago or so. Before that, honestly it must have been F-Zero GX for GameCube. But come to think of it, way back, when I wanted a game I would be there first thing in the store, I knew the release dates, I'd ask shops (namely this fake blockbuster in town) to order in stock for me. So I guess that's the same thing, part of the chase.

It's more the net and the instant news etc that gets around now, people are obsessed with staying on top and racing to secure orders as far as possible. Even worse are people pre-ordering stuff they don't want (nevermind selling it). Season passes are the worst as they withhold content that may well be free content or optional DLC later down the line, or included in the game.

But I guess we'll never actually know whether stock scarcity is engineered or carefully planed to avoid dead money in stock - something Nintendo I think are wary to avoid after successive console problems like Wii U and GC. Stock sitting on shelves is never a good thing from a business perspective.

I imagine Metroid stock was quite low for this because Federation Force bombed and it's not had any major releases recently so awareness for the franchise is low. Calculating a run of goods that require specific tooling and production lines for a niche product like a bunch of Samus pin badges and pressing a tin case etc, that's very hard to justify such massive investment in securing manufacturing, without knowing how much will sell. So corporates tend to err on the side of caution.

Say for example they project 50,000 units sold and sell only 25,000, they actually make no money on that. It's a very bad situation, and it spells worse for future limited goods, as the producer will still be looking to recoup those costs next time, they may be overly cautious as one way of recovering costs, making things even more scarce, etc.

You could say it's one way of Nintendo maintaining their profitable status allowing them to be more innovative and take more risks.

I normally don't take up on this sort of thing at all, and I think it's best to just forget about the limited stuff and focus on the games, that normally have plenty of copies about.
