I've been playing this tonight.

I had forgotten how good the 2D Metroid series was. I completed Super Metroid back in the day, but was never into Metroid Prime.

But this brings all the memories of Super Metroid back - even the music and sound effects sound memorable.

Welcome back Metroid :)

I found the end of Zero Mission a cool surprise.

I've also discovered a sort of "feature" of Fusion. My memory got corrupted, twice (came up with the error one after the other for 2 save files after booting first time in years), so it bounced back to a "back-up" of those 2 files. So it seems the game actually stores up to 6 save slots - including 3 backups of the save before the last save(s). Strange. The next time I booted the game they had disappeared, and after that, came back again.. even after saving over one slot. wtf. I'm guessing the CMOS/memory controller is strawberry floating up.

Still interesting that they'd even have a save data mitigation routine.

I read one review which suggested the music had been taken mostly from Prime. Obviously not. :datass:

I need Master Metroids opinion on the game. :toot:

Yes, this is a game which needs to be played with headphones on.

I'm not sure if it's just the New 2DS, but even with headphones on, and the volume maxed up, it's not loud enough for me.

If anything though, the music takes its inspiration from the SNES game...

I'd forgotten how maze-like Metroid games were - it's very easy to get lost.

It's fantastic. Much better than the original Metroid II, but still retains the same feel and structure.

It's borrowed liberally from other 2D Metroid games and it's managed to make it arguably the best 2D one since Super Metroid (Though it's not as good as that).

I'm only about 1/3rd of the way through the game as I've just cleared out Area 2 of Metroids (Got around 28 left on my counter) but the Quality of Life improvements make it a far more approachable game than it's progenitor. Just having a map instantly fixes the biggest problem that the GB original had.

As for the new additions they're all pretty decent. The Aeion Abilities have been useful enough but not game breaking. The fast travel is useful without being too disruptive to the games flow. The actual map has changed as well, but it still retains the general shape of the original. If you're familiar with the original game you'll recognise quite a few locations. Including fire cavern type rooms is new, but makes sense with the Varia Suit and helps to gate off certain places until you have it.

The counter-attack is really useful and is pretty much mandatory considering how much more aggresive the various enemies are. I like it though as it makes combat a little more interesting and challenging.

The Metroid fights themselves have been beefed up considerably and there's now more to them than just finding a good spot and spamming missiles at them.

EDIT: Yeah the music is fantastic as well. Quite a bit has been lifted from Super Metroid too, which is nice.

If you're only on area 2 then strap yourself in as things are about to pick up massively from area 3 onwards.

I just realised today that you can freeze stuff then smash them with the melee counter attack. Seems you can also block some projectile attacks too.

Hopefully this looks better on the 3DS than videos on my 50 inch TV of it does. Wasn't digging the art style. Can't afford it for a while anyway so going through Super just now. Superb thing!

I think the game will look more saturated on a TV, the 3DS screen isn't like that so I'm sure its more subdued.

For anyone interested, my Legacy Edition will go on eBay at 7pm torrow for 3 days, this link will be live then: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Metroid-Samus ... 2758761649. My gecko is literally dying and I need to pay for her to see the vet, its been going on months. :(

It starts at 59.99 retail price and only 3 days so it won't sell for as much as other auctions before the hype. No reserve. Special delivery and double boxed for the AndyXLs out there.

Come back from work to a freshly cleaned apartment and the Legacy Edition :datass:

Liking it so far. Free aim makes things interesting, but not a fan of this farting out a map every few rooms.

Good luck - hopefully you'll get at least £100 for it, and make a decent profit.

I hope everything works out, and you have enough to pay for your vet fees - keep us updated on how it goes - I'm sure she'll make a speedy recovery :)

It brings me joy each time I spot it and think of its squishiness. It actually looks better under normal light, quite realistic. Hopefully it doesn't wear off.

No bids on the legacy edition yet :dread: I really need that money back. Got 3 watchers and no-one want to pull the trigger. The price is at cost ffs!

Can anyone "help" it along :shifty:, at worst you'll win it for retail price and have a money maker on your hands, or just someone else will get it.

Is the squishy one the one breaking out of a glass tube?
