Thats the worry. If they weren't making the cash, they wouldn't keep doing this.

Which means statistically SOME of you strawberry floaters have to be buying. STOP IT.

I couldn't care less about micro-transactions. This doesn't affect me in the slightest.

What's the problem, though?

You can get everything in the ME3 multiplayer just by playing the game and if you are playing without micro transactions, you're also getting all of their map packs for free. I see zero problem with this as I've not had to buy anyf DLC in the multiplayer.

It's the same with Dead Space 3. People have reported that you have an abundance of credits by the end of that game and there is absolutely no need whatsoever to buy anything via micro transactions, so I'll ask again, what's the problem if it doesn't effect us?

Because you're making already money hungry corporations think that trying to pump gamers for more money is a good idea, leading to the further homogenisation of gaming.

"We are very proud of the way EA evolved with consumers," Gibeau said. "I have not green lit one game to be developed as a single player experience. Today, all of our games include online applications and digital services that make them live 24/7/365."

If EA can't find a way to crowbar microtransactions into your game, no game for you.

How exactly is that happening to the typical gamer who does not want to pay for micro transactions?

All I'm getting is free map packs.

If they eventually get in the way of being able to play the regular game, then yes, I agree we have problems. But if they remain the way they are doing them now, I don't see what you're complaining about.

They're already affecting the type of games we get.

At least I don't buy a lot of EA titles.

The ones I do buy is mostly from outside development teams and EA is publishing it, namely ME3.

What do you mean by 'type'? As Zellery said, you can completely ignore their micro transactions and it doesn't influence the game in any way. They're merely short cuts for gamers who don't have the time to play 6 runthroughs of a game in order to use all the guns, or whatever.

I have no problem with this, many people are cash rich, time poor. They may never see some of the game content (see Dara O'Brien on Games wipe), if this helps those people then that's cool. It doesn't mean your game has to be gimped if you don't pay.

I'm guilty of buying packs in Ultimate Team. :(

But the two examples we're talking about are Mass Effect and Dead Space. Are these games really a direct affect of micro transactions or would they have come out anyway? I think we both know the answer.

EA is very enthusiastic about the free-to-play model right up to the point of actually making games free-to-play. :fp: They take a perfectly good business model and then use it for their own ends to try to exploit gamers for every penny they have.

Yeah, go ahead, charge people full retail price for things, then squeeze them first day dlc and online passes while hounding them with microtransaction crap. Monetise, monetise, monetise.

There are already games they have put out that I have elected not to buy because of this crap. It's just too much, I want to pay for something and get what I pay for. EA want to drive people away from their games. Is a little respect for the consumer too much to ask?

EA have released about five ME3 multiplayer map packs now. All free.

Your point doesn't hold up.

They did strawberry float up The Old Republics free to play option by gimping it so badly people started calling it free-to-pay. Then there's stuff like NBA Jam:OFE where the rewards from playing the game are so minuscule it'd a thousand plus matches for you to unlock everything the $5 cheatpack gets you so the singe player game feels pointless.

The fact that we're talking about a Gears of War style multiplayer horde mode crammed slap bang in the middle of what started out as an RPG speaks out as a testament to exactly what I'm talking about.

Sure, we might have had a Mass Effect 3 and a Dead Space 3. Theres very good odds that games bearing those titles would have looked very different if EA wasn't intent on squeezing every penny out of it's audience, though.

I love the fact people (on other forums I must stress) genuinely believe that EA will charge less for the games, not a bloody chance, they are going to gouge every penny they can.
