I don't think you'll be shooting anything other than locust in the next game! Cole train to have even bigger arms

I enjoyed all the 3 gears games. 3 had a great horde mode. I like to pretend that funny spin off score attack/timed mission game that came after didn't happen. Reading gears forums I don't think I'm alone!

+1. What a cheap, poorly designed smoke and mirrors piece of gooseberry fool that was.

I thought it was a lot of fun, and an interesting way of telling a story.

Opinions, eh? I thought sticking in blatant Horde-mode bits into the campaign was lazy, with terrible friendly AI, the characters were half-baked and to the point of self-parody.
I did like the flashback style of telling the tale though, and the visuals were excellent.

It added variety and challenge to a campaign that would otherwise be:

  1. Pick your favourite weapon
  2. Kill enemies
  3. Move to the next area
  4. Repeat

The AI was a bit too helpful and could do most of the work for you at times but I just took this as a cue to work faster. I've never paid much attention to the story or character development in a Gears game because I'm mainly interested in the gameplay so I didn't have any major qualms with the characters. I think that Gears 2 and 3 have the worst character moments (Dom's wife and sacrifice respectively).

Microsoft’s Phil Spencer hopes the next Gears of War returns to the series’ darker roots. In the beginning, Spencer loved the “epic scale, the settings that I was in, the massive destruction moments. It was more what I would call soulful and maybe even a little dark.” The Head of Xbox told IGN that, in discussions with Rod Fergusson, who’s in charge of Gears of War at Black Tusk Studios, he’s talked about Gears of War becoming “a parody of itself” over time. “Not for any horrible reasons,” but because managing success over time is challenging.

Spencer and Fergusson have also discussed “getting back to something,” he continued. “I think [about] the story and the setting and what they’re going through as a band. Gears of War, the name really meant something to what that game was about. We need to get back to that.” He also reiterated that the next Gears of War is not a reboot.

Spencer is aware that “Judgment didn’t hit everybody’s needs and desires,” but said “I think we can continue, but we also have a new team. Rod’s there to really help with the continuity. We can really invest in this thing for the next decade, which is how I want to think about it.”

Fergusson said earlier this year that betraying fan expectations is the best way to succeed. Perhaps getting back to the series' bleaker origins is how Black Tusk aims to do that.

The Xbox press site uploaded a bunch of assets under the label "Gears of War Franchise" yesterday -

He later said it was an accident.

Most of that is Gears Trilogy stuff...omg....a remastered trilogy maybe?

If true, somewhere right now, Glowys head has just exploded.

In all fairness, if they done a decent job and upscaled them all and done thin in Unreal Engine 4 while bringing together all the online stuff into one easy to find place like Halo MCC, they'd make a ton of money. I'd be willing to bet that more people would also jump and buy an X1 if it happened to recreat both their Gears memories and Halo ones. :datass:

I'd be all over that.

All I care about is Gears of war 1. I still play and there is still a decent community that plays this game hardcore.

They never were able to capture that magic from the first gears. I just want updated Gears war 1 so I can finally put away my 360 for good.

A dedicated server and I will genuinely cry, strawberry floating tears all over the place. Please! MS give us Dedicated servers for this

Oh my.

Not the first time Phil has hinted at this, he retweeted someone asking him about it a while ago.

Thing about the Gears games is, they where always amongst the very best looking 360 games so if they bumped to 1080p and 60fps as per Halo MCC then they'll look almost as good as dedicated X1 games.

GOW Judgement looks fantastic on 360. Would love to see that on Xbox One. No doubt they won't bother with that one, though.

3 Wasn't too shabby in the looks department either to be fair. I liked Judgements horde parts though, really had to be strategic and like how it mixed things up like having option to not start with sniper rifles for extra points.

I remember GoW3 being very brown. Judgement had loads of great and colourful environments.
