Cross-Network Play
First, in addition to natively supporting cross-platform play between Xbox One and Windows 10 games that use Xbox Live, we’re enabling developers to support cross-network play as well. This means players on Xbox One and Windows 10 using Xbox Live will be able to play with players on different online multiplayer networks – including other console and PC networks.

Of course, it’s up to game developers to support this feature, and Xbox Live players will always have the option of choosing to play only with other Xbox Live players. We’re thrilled to confirm that Psyonix’s Rocket League will be one of the first games to take advantage of this new capability by enabling cross-network play between Xbox One and PC players, with an open invitation for other networks to participate as well.

Cross network play between Xbox Live and PSN would be amazing

So I guess I can't play rocket league with both ps4 and xbone players at the same time then? I guess on PC it randomly picks which other network to connect to? Oh wait, Windows 10. Nevermind.

It sounds like you should be able to sign into Xbox Live using the Steam version of Rocket League and play against people signed into Steam and Xbox.

I wonder if Sony or Nintendo would actually let developers support this on their platforms? It could be great on NX.

Still doesn't look like you can play against the PS4 people.

It's just Win10 vs X1 right?

So Win10 and X1 players couldn't join the current PC (Steam) vs PS4 matches.

I've bought Rocket League on all of the platforms now anyway :fp: :x

It has totally left the ball in Sony/Nintendo's court, interested to see what they say.

I would love to play against Xbox players, but from a competitive standpoint I really cannot see many developers adopting this - plus won't Xbox players be disadvantaged because us PS4 players will be playing in a higher resolution!

Does this suggest anything about the future of Xbox Live Gold? It'd be farcical if you could play online using Xbox Live for free on NX but have to pay for the same thing on Xboxone.

Not really and maybe NX will have a similar service.

X1 users will have access to Dat Elite controller, it'd be funny to see console wars online...

You're nothing if not consistent, I'll give you that.

Both Live and PSN are decidedly ropey this gen so far, this'll just make it worse.

About time, maybe there'll be a port of Final Fantasy XIV now as this is what was holding it back.

Microsoft bailing fast on the Xbox is hardware way of doing things. They really want to to be seen as a service sooner rather than later, I wont complain if it means Ill get Rare Replay on PC. :D
