It does seem as though they are moving towards a services based future, but I really do not think the iOS model will work for home consoles.

Ofcourse, I will be happy if MS exit the home console scene, which will then allow Nintendo to fight it out with Sony. This is my dream.

I'll believe it when I see it. Struggling to think of any reason why MS would want XBO players to play against people on PS4s. One of the things helping to keep the XBO in the running is that if your mates have a XBO you will need to buy one so you can play with them. Letting people with an XBO play with people on a PS4 erodes this.

Wowsers, big news. Thought PC outside Win10 was only a matter of time but never thought it would extend to other consoles.

Rocket League GRcade tournament incoming and maybe some FF14.

About strawberry floating time someone did this! I'm not even that interested in MP, but it'd be great if console manufacturers could come together more often like this. (Y'know, as long as they didn't see it as an opportunity to fleece us.)

I'm guessing Sony are going to have to approve this. I'm very sceptical about this.

With the way Rocket League is set up, I can't see this not meaning all 3 platforms play together. And that's great, because with the work Psyonix put into nailing cross-platform play, it sucked real hard that they had to shelve that for the Xbox release.

The messaging is a little funny, though, "inviting other networks to join". PSN's been open to working with other networks for years. The only reason we haven't had this earlier is because Microsoft wouldn't allow it when they were on top.

You could apply the same argument to them supporting Office on iOS and Android and they've already done that.

What other networks does Sony mix with?

I think MMO's are the obvious place this will be best used, creating a multi server should be easier with this stuff than online mp games.

When you're losing, opening up your network gives less disincentive to buy your product.

Imagine MS press conference at a future E3...

Music ends. Stream starting. Shot of darkened stage. Lights go up. :o  :o  Shuhei's on stage (!)... with Reggie and Phil!

I would lose my gooseberry fool *instantly*.

And then I'd calm down and freak out about how they'd strawberry float it up and make things worse.

Pure Chess is a cross platform game that enables you to play Wii, 3DS, PS3, PC and Phones.

I hope stuff like Destiny 2 will be cross platform play.

DC Universe on PS3/PS4/PC FFXI, Phantasy Star Universe were cross platform on PS2/PC.

Is Helldivers cross platform?

Destiny 2 would be the best prototype for it, in beta form at least.

Quake 3 Arena was cross play with PC I think... could be wrong...could be mixing up the keyboard support.
