With MS pushing for this, Steam being a huge success and rumours about Nintendo's next generation efforts being part of an open Nintendo platform, I wouldn't be surprised to see the industry take a shift towards Account or Subscription type models and platforms. Nowadays you can't find a new laptop that doesn't double up as a tablet making the traditional laptop model rarer and rarer; I imagine tablets will continue to dominate and become the computer type of choice for that particular market, with desktop PCs retaining their hold on those that need a desk to work on, but I could foresee some kind of convergence where the models of gaming PC, games console, home entertainment centre (i.e. Sky box, Virgin media box, whatever) all seem to merge. You'd have one device under the telly that does all these things - it plays TV shows through your TV subscription, it plays games through your games network of choice, it can double up as a traditional PC-type rig for work stuff if needed. This would work for the likes of MS & Sony, who'd be under less pressure to deliver new 'next-gen' consoles and freer to justify introducing upgraded models of existing consoles (Xbox One point One, anyone?) that are simply reflective of upgrades that the PC community would have seen through upgrading their own machines. You buy a PS5 and at the time it's as powerful as a top-of-the-range gaming PC; two years later the PC is way ahead, but there's a new Sony Box on the market, that's like a PS5 but with updates to catch up to the curve. Plus it works as your Freeview box / recorder. Or you can buy a generic [COMPANY] media centre, and run your Steam and NX games through signing into those accounts / buying an NX controller/gamepad and syncing it. This will also play shows through your Sky subscription, etc. So there's a clear distinction between a traditional desktop/working computer, a tablet computer, and a media centre /console type computer.

But it isn't. It is either a different console meaning that the new games don't work on the old PS5 or it has minor updates that let you play existing games with perhaps higher resolution graphics, but a fairly pointless update in the grand scheme of things.

"PlayStation has been supporting cross-platform play between PC on several software titles starting with Final Fantasy 11 on PS2 and PC back in 2002,” reads the statement from the corporation.

“We would be happy to have the conversation with any publishers or developers who are interested in cross platform play."

Sony's response was to a direct question about whether it would be interested in working with Microsoft.

http://www.gamespot.com/articles/sony-r ... 0-6435688/

Adam Boyes' thoughts on the matter:

I had the chance to catch up with Adam Boyes, vice president of publisher and developer relations at Sony here at GDC. As expected, Boyes and Sony aren't ready to jump on a commitment having just found about the Rocket League announcement.

"For us, it's not a new thing," Boyes said, referring to cross-platform play between PlayStation and PC. "If you go back to PS3 days, we had Dust 514 tied into EVE Online. Paragon is PS4/PC cross-play, and so is Street Fighter V. There are a ton of games that have had it. Portal 2 had Steam integration, and we've had other games that have allowed you to import your Xbox save content on PlayStation, like Diablo III and Grand Theft Auto V."

However, Boyes views the decision to tie PlayStation Network into other user communities as, in part, a content-owner decision. This would be the call in the developer's or publisher's hands.

"We're always open to stuff like that," Boyes continued. "It's all about what the developers and publishers want to do. They get in touch with us and handle everything on a case by case basis."

There are technical concerns to be addressed, though. Sony still hasn't had time to investigate how this would work.

"I think we have to analyze what the impact is going to be and how the handoff works," he explained. "Our publishers know their business very well, so we always want to look at those opportunities."

Speaking of pissing themselves laughing. Dblock is quite used to that reaction on the EA forum.

No it is hilarious.

Dblock lies about his wins, someone finds his game account which shows he's clearly bullshitting.
Dblock says that's not his gamertag so not his account (he even laughs at himself pretending it's someone else  bottom of page 2) at which point someone finds his YT account, with the same username, and the same Twitch profile link as shown in his forum signature, showing he's doubled down on his bullshitting.
"Now you just making stuff up. I don't know BlarixHD and I have nothing to do with him. Not sure why you added my twitch name to his youtube account."
At which point someone finds an old post in which Dblock has embedded one of his own videos, clearly linking his YT account to him. Showing he's trebled down on his bullshitting.
"Well, this didn't go as planned"

I mean we've always known Dblock is completely full of gooseberry fool but it's entertaining to see his lies ripped apart so embarrassingly.
