The thing about this and all the other virtual reality gesture control bullshit is that they are not easier or more effective than what we already have. As soon as they make some advance over the amount of work involved in using a mouse and keyboard with a monitor I will start taking an interest; although I'm not certain how one might do that. Maybe if the tech advances enough those headsets that read brain activity will allow us to enter commands much more easily just by thinking about them, which actually would be a lot easier than a traditional set up.

Others?

I expect the viewing window will expand as they go, just a shame it took someone other than MS to mention it. Doesn't look good.

Noted Apple fansite shitting on a Microsoft product? youdontsay.jpg

(With that said, Microsoft does have form in grossly over-exaggerating the capabilities of their new tech, see also the Kinect)

With Kinect v1 it was pretty clear it was going to be gash from the off.

Accusing the site of talking gooseberry fool about MS is ridiculous when the person in the video is obviously a fan of the tech.

I think the problem is that in order to cover the full field of vision they would have to have made the device much bulkier and less compact and it would probably also worsen viewing distance.

I'm sorry did you watch the same video I did.

She's clearly out to get the tech with nonsense issues where ever she can. She says what you can see looks like its really there, that its like the best screen in the world and that its amazing 'in a lot of ways'.

'It can recognise gesture and voice commands well...but that's not really how we want to be interacting with something.'
'You can't get that close because your head camera starts to clip through the image.'
'You can never actually believe that this is there.'
'The moment you start to look around it starts disappearing, so you can never actually feel like something is in this space.'
'Stuff can be around you but you can't see it till you look at it.'
'If you can't believe in it, what are you using it for.'
'Microsoft promised science fiction and this isn't science fiction.'

It sounded to me like she deliberately went out of her way to make issues where there really weren't any.

The point still stands what MS showed in videos, and maybe are still showing right now, and the reality of the tech at the time do not match.

I'm sure some of it might be more what they are aiming for rather than what it can do at the moment.

But then thinking about it, from the point of view of the camera maybe it can display what it showed us (just that the person in shot wouldn't see all of it at once).

They clearly showed off a live demo of it in the MS press conference and if you didn't think that looked like magic compared to current tech then I don't know what would.

If a child said that I'd probably take them to a Doctor.

Its a display technology...what more do you want than for it to 'look' amazing.

The Giant Bomb guys seemed super-impressed with how Hololens was used in the E3 'Halo Experience'. JEFF GERSTMANN LOOKED EXCITED. JEFF GERSTMANN.
