Microsoft planning to launch a game streaming service within 3 years.

Anything to do with games at all.

I often stream games from my XB1 to a tablet for convenience. It obviously works better for some games than others, but it's still a great feature. I can imagine if Microsoft suddenly offer something like Game Pass, directly streamable via a PC or tablet with an instant collection of games, that would be pretty popular.

Microsoft will probably debut a streaming service that doesn’t require a console for some types of content in the next three years, Spencer said. A 2012 trial of such a service inside the company was too costly and never made it to the market, but Microsoft’s progress in Azure cloud services over the past few years is changing the economics and quality level, he said.

Not the most surprising of news but I am curious why Spencer mentioned something as potentially important as launching a game streaming service in such a casual manner.

Maybe as a way to generate buzz, and help guage demand for such a service. Customers don't respond to things like surveys so much as discuss reposted news "leaks" in the comments and share etc, all of which are valuable metrics.

Does PS Now have the awesome power of the cloud though?
Without that power it's just pointless. It's why the Zune sold millions and the Iphone/Ipod sold bugger all.

Kinnect will indeed be a huge loss and the tens of millions who bought it will be rightly devastated.

PS Now is cloud computing. Like, its literally a service built on cloud computing.

This is potentially 3 years away, Not sure I'd bother but MS' north European Azure servers are right here in Dublin so It'd work well.

Yeah but it's a rubbish Sony cloud like one of those stupid wispy ones so it's no match for the rolling thundercloud of doom Microsoft uses.

Here's Sony's cloud

I'd actually consider using the service if they could get the Total War games.
