That would be the Disney game from Frontier.

I've just seen over at gaf in the RCT3 thread that as well as the Disneyland game Frontier are developing a proper ("not dumbed down") coaster game that wasn't shown at E3.

On a serious note, it's no different than adding Move or 3D support.

I don't get why they keep linking voice recognition to Kinect? All the voice stuff can technically be done with the standard headset.

To be fair, while there were no Kinect games that I'd personally want to play (maybe the voice recognition of Ghost Recon, which was pretty cool, though like satriales says, why does this have to be a 'Kinect' thing?), games like Sesame Street and Disnyeland looked like they would have been hella fun when I was 7 or now, if I had kids, I'd probably happily play games like that with them.

...Thank god I have no plans to have kids.

Except it is. He is saying eventually ALL 1st party games will have some element of Kinect.

Yes?

But as long as it's only an optional use much like ME etc. It won't ever affect the people who continue to prefer the controller, just like Move.

Seriously pissed off at this. I love the first game and it was being backed to the hilt until a new guy took over (matrick i think?) and he just basically thinks its rubbish from what I can gather.

MS drop game that sold poorly shock.....

Hopefully Remedy are having a good look at how to flesh out Alan Wake, I'm sure when they have they'll take it back to Microsoft.

I think the guy nails it when he says that he wouldn't give a gooseberry fool if MS had announced new core games as well as the Kinect stuff. The problem is that MS promised it would show how Kinect will serve core gamers and it singularly failed to do so. Even Forza 4's Autovista mode looks like it'll be fun for about 5 minutes before everyone realises it's essentially a gesture-based menu system that leads to well-put-together non-interactive clips. The best thing in Forza 4, Kinect-wise, is being able to navigate the menus using voice - which could be easily implemented with a headset.

I'm not railing on Kinect itself because I think that stuff like Kinect Sports 2 will be cool, and Child of Eden looks phenomenal, but core games will only ever be enhanced by small bits of Kinect interactivity - it's very unlikely that a traditional core game will ever be based entirely around Kinect. You can see what happens when they are: Kinect Star Wars looks clunky as strawberry float right now, and Fable: The Journey looked pretty non-interactive and awful. Molyneux's damage control is just that - I bet you a fiver it's entirely on-rails right now and he's finally realised he needs to make it not so, if it isn't going to be a complete disaster.

Maybe after multiple software updates Kinect will start to get accurate enough to live up to the promise, but right now any timing windows need to be far too large for it to offer anything like the precision of a joypad. It reminds me of when the Wii came out and Super Monkey Ball supported the Wiimote. The courses were so wide open compared to SMB on the Gamecube, entirely because the controls couldn't be accurate enough. Same problem with Kinect stuff, and until they sort that out, core games will always have to be designed to be idiot-proof.

There's still a lot to see with Kinect, the TGS games for a start. Also, seeing what Ryse will actually be like in depth.

Bad showings from them though, particularly with Fable.

Did you read an article that said that all 1st party games will REQUIRE Kinect? If not, then it's absolutely no different to adding Move or 3D support.

No. But I don't think all first party PS3 games have Move support added, but I could be wrong though. Can anyone say whether the 3rd Motorstorm and InFamous 2 has Move support?

Yes?

I don't think in the future there will be many first party PS3 games that don't have either Move or 3D support.

If you are talking about now, I don't think Gears 3 has Kinect support does it?

Not without having to have a headset on.

Also I presume the voice recognition stuff is built into Kinect's software, so developers don't have to start from scratch with it.

Yes it should be part of the Kinect APIs. Also the device itself has a microphone array to pick up voices from all over the room and the noise cancellation, language/dialect model and all the 3D positioning stuff are all handled by Kinect through it's own software and hardware. So you could do this with a standard headset but at the expense of other areas of the game.

Harry Ola wrote:Can't say I agree with all the criticism MS are getting. So they focussed on some kinect stuff. But all the big hitters from MS were present and correct. All this talk about MS turning their back on the hardcore is just nonsense. What games were you looking for from them that apparently have been moved aside by kinect? The only dev team that might otherwise be working on some core games seems to be Rare and they don't appear to be working on anything!

I would imagine MS are probably quite happy with their conference. If the reactions of my girls to the Disneyland game and the Star Wars game (whether it looks rubbish to us) are anything to go by, they will be having another big holiday this year.

I agree. I actually thought the MS conference wasn't too bad, loved the Kinect stuff for Ghost Recon and cannot wait to see if they finally implement hand signals for Rainbow Six. It's a definite step in the right direction adding Kinect Support to some proper games.

That said, the Kinect only titles left me a bit underwhelmed, but I can see the appeal. My nephews and nieces will no doubt love to play the Disney game, but the Fable and Star Wars games looked pretty bloody bland.

Yeah, it could have been a better conference, but it could have been a lot worse. I think a lot of the stick it has been getting on gaming forums is unjustified, and it's just a bunch of elitists looking for something else to turn their noses up at. Mind you, the same people were no doubt jizzing themselves at an orchestra playing some Zelda music
