I only had a PS3 for 2 days as the installs sucked the will to live from me. What I saw of Home just reeked of pointless. I'm sure there is a good idea in there somewhere so maybe MS can dig it out. :?

A survey has been sent to Xbox 360 owners that provides some interesting insights to Microsoft’s ventures into the casual gaming space.

The first part of the survey is the most standard, asking people about their favorite game shows and board games, including Balderdash and Taboo, as well as what they like best about 1 Vs. 100. One interesting aspect of that section is that there may be a paid version of 1 Vs. 100 that will offer better prizes.

The latter part of the survey, however, is extremely intriguing, and an indication that Microsoft may be venturing into a PlayStation Home-like space in which Avatars can congregate and play retro games on classic coin-op cabinets. They queried applicants what name would fit the space best – “Game Room”, “RetroCade”, “AvatArcade”, “RetroGame”, “Classics LIVE”, and so forth. Of course, with all the Atari festooning, maybe its a classic Atari compilation game that allows online parties.

After first denouncing both avatars and PlayStation Home, Microsoft having introduced avatars and look like they are going to do the same with their version of Home. Halo space is due soon, but this could be expanded to much wider meeting areas. Hopefully it will inspire the Sony crew to pull their socks up.

It's amazing no-one's ever thought of that idea before, nor posted it on this very forum. :|

That's an excellent idea.

Also going to Tom Nooks would be where you buy WiiWare and Virtual Console games.

awesome idea. we'd love that here.

Mention it to MS via work mate, before long we'll have "Farm Crossroads Avatar fun zone" no doubt.

I bet someone could make serious money from pretending to be a woman on there :shifty:

Didn't we have a similar conversation on Radio Radar a couple of years back?

Just because Home is gooseberry fool doesn't mean the entire idea is unworkable.

As long as they keep the existing dashboard as an option, I'd be willing to take a look at this version, at least. The Live Arcade Arcade looks like it might be fun :)

As long as you don't have to queue.

Aren't Sony supposed to be making quite a bit of money from it selling people virtual apartments for real money?

I'd be interested to know if this was true. Home spent ages in development, and I really can't imagine it has generated any kind of profit yet if you factor in continual upkeep costs on top of development / promotion costs. Although if it had it would certainly seem like a worthwhile effort as an extra source to drive revenue.

I can't imagine using Microsofts new avatar space. Despite being an MMORPG player, this type of stuff isn't generally what I'm into. It lacks any kind of meaningful purpose for me.
