Exactly, up until now there's been little competition. Once all these PC vendors release their own headsets, HTC and Oculus will be forced to drop price.

Most likely Vive 2 (which is apparently wireless) and Rift 2 will be out by then.

Really hope this brings about a standard for PC VR with HTC and Oculus being forced to be compatible.

Lenovo just showed us its first VR headset, a prototype device that works with Microsoft’s Windows Holographic platform. Next to other tethered PC headsets like the Oculus Rift or the HTC Vive, it’s noticeably smaller and lighter — Lenovo says it’s targeting around 350g for the final product’s weight versus the Vive’s 555g.

The design is also pretty comfortable, taking heavy inspiration from PlayStation VR’s approach and suspending the lenses in front of the user’s eyes rather than securing them in place with a strap.

The headset uses two 1440 x 1440 OLED panels for its display, making it higher resolution than both the Rift and the Vive.

Competition can only be good for VR at this stage, you only need to look at whats happened so far. The Vive and its motion controllers seemed to push Oculus towards getting touch out of the door quicker and in response to the design of touch HTC seem to be working on refining their current controllers. PS VR generally seems to be getting feedback for having the most comfortable design and I'm sure that is being factored into the designs of Oculus CV2 and Vive 2.

More headsets with different designs, better resolution screens or more comfortable ergonomics can only be a good thing. They don't all need to be successful in their own right but if they can push VR along as a whole then that's a great thing. It'll be interesting to see what approach these other PC VR headsets take to input devices, tracked motion controllers make a huge difference to the experience and if they don't have them then they'll have to take a lower price point to reflect that. Could also be a great opportunity for a third party accessory company to develop their own, although the tracking not being directly linked to the headsets could result in it not working as well.

More hardware also makes developers and publishers take note and think of VR as a more worth while investment.

That's great but the sets they were using before were $3,000 so unless they can somehow slash the cost drastically I'm unsure how this will be better than PSVR or PC VR.
