Microsoft to hold E3 press conference plus Natal “experience” event

Microsoft just said its E3 press conference will be on June 14 this year, and will be preceded by a Project Natal “experience” the night before..

Here’s the tweet:
Just 1 press conference on Monday morning, Sunday night is a “Project Natal” experience, not a press conference.

The Project Natal for Xbox 360 Experience will take place Sunday, June 13 at the USC Galen Center, and on Monday morning, MS will hold its Xbox 360 Media Briefing at the Wiltern Theater.

“We’re gearing up for a really exciting E3 and wanted to share some key dates to put on your calendar,” said Greenberg. “More details to come.”

Greenberg: Natal E3 “experience” will demonstrate 360’s “universal appeal”

Xbox production boss Aaron Greenberg has told VG247 that Microsoft’s just-announced E3 Natal event on Sunday, June 13 will be an “all ages” affair designed to show “the universal appeal of Xbox 360″.

“We’re gearing up for a really exciting E3 – unlike any E3 we’ve ever had before,” said the exec, speaking moments after confirmation of Microsoft’s E3 press plans.

“As you may have heard, our traditional news briefing is on the morning of Monday, June 14. Additionally, as a kick off to the week, we will be hosting a can’t-miss exclusive “Project Natal” World Premiere experience designed for all ages and demonstrating the universal appeal of Xbox 360 on Sunday evening.

“We’ll have more details on both events and additional media opportunities for Xbox 360 at E3 in the coming months, but wanted to get the word out now as you make your plans.”

Microsoft said today that the world premiere of Project Natal will take place Sunday, June 13 at the USC Galen Center, and on Monday morning, MS will hold its Xbox 360 Media Briefing at the Wiltern Theater.

It seems certain that the Nintendo press conference will take place on the Tuesday, June 15. The firm has already promised more 3DS information on that date.

We really are pumped. Barking like seals. Let’s. Go. E3.

Can't wait, love E3 :D

Microsoft's E3 plans? Two hours camera dancing and kid-touching with Peter Molyneux.

The reason why... Microsoft have to promote Natal, but they are concerned that the family-centric focus of it will bore hard-core game journos and lead to reports that either of their competitors 'won' E3. :)

Yeah, it seems like Microsoft have rather cleverly noted that fans/journalists rate the conferences on their own. It doesn't matter if they announce a ton of stuff before, if the conference itself is a disappointment then it'll just create bad press. They'll cut all the stuff that could be perceived as casual out of the traditional conference, perhaps even giving it even more exposure than what the proper conference will get, but the conference itself will be seen as a success if Microsoft just announce a few things people want.

Also they get 2 days of coverage in the National press/TV instead of 1. Sounds great, more room for non-Natal stuff in the Monday briefing.

Agree with TAP. Seems a smart way to get Natal coverage but also low their main conference to please the press and core gamers.

This is a good move, one briefing for Natal which will make its own headlines and then the normal E3 brief for Core gamers.

Big news one day and then the slim Megaton the next, can't wait

Surely it's not much of a megaton if we already know about it?

Would they announce the slim six months before launching it? Seems safer to hold it back until Natal is about to launch.

You're probably right, Sony held off on their Slim announcement so sales didn't die in the months beforehand.
