It's worth listening to the audiobook too. Read by Partridge himself.

Should be going to see this on Thursday as long as my brother doesn't have a change of plan. Apparently everyone that went to the premiere got a Chocolate Orange with a bit of superficial damage to the box.

Also the blu-ray release looks like it could be available as early as 2nd December.

Finally got to see this last night. Thought it was hilarious and is the best comedy I've seen in a long time. The final scene on the pier was great as was the jingle they came up with for Pat.

I walked along Cromer Pier yesterday - where the finale was filmed. There wasn't a dot of reference to the film - which was a shame.

Worked out - None of it could actually happen either. A sad, sad trip.

Alan Partridge stars in Norwich Christmas lights

Norwich lit up a Christmas lights display in tribute to Steve Coogan's fictional radio DJ Alan Partridge.

People turned out to see the illuminations be switched on by television presenter Jake Humphrey on Thursday night.

But a message was read to the crowd apologising for the absence of Partridge at the event.

The crowd was told the character was the "designated driver" at a pub quiz, and could not attend.

The light display includes a 30ft (9m) high sculpture featuring Partridge's face.

It 'sings' Roachford's late 1980s hit Cuddly Toy, which the character sang in the movie Alpha Papa.

'Trouser press'

Actor Simon Greenall, who played the character of Michael in the I'm Alan Partridge BBC television series, read a message on behalf of the character.

It said: "Dear people of Norwich, and to a lesser extent anyone here from Suffolk - welcome!

"I'm genuinely heartbroken not to be there with you, but it's quiz night at the Rose & Crown and I'm the designated driver.

"You're about to witness the biggest turning on of lights since the end of the three-day week.

"The electricity used to power the illuminations is enough to run a trouser press for over 25 years.

"Instead, it's powering an LED effigy of my face and body, lighting up the Christmas night just as the Archangel Gabriel did over two thousand years ago.

"I hope you have a wonderful festive season. A-ha."

Ben Ayers, from Blinkbox, the company behind the display, said: "We wanted to make a Christmas statement that would match Alan's enormous ego."

The character grew up in Norwich and returned to work in Norfolk at various points in his fictional career.

The Blu-Ray/DVD of Alpha Papa is released on December 2nd - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Alan-Partridge- ... 595&sr=1-9

Steve Coogan's Alan Partridge will return for a big screen sequel and a new series on Sky, including a Coast-style spoof, its makers have confirmed.

Henry Normal, co-founder of Coogan's production company Baby Cow, said a sequel to the fictional Norfolk DJ's film debut, last year's Alpha Papa, was in the pipeline, along with a new series for Sky Atlantic, where Partridge moved to in 2012 having previously been on the BBC.

"We are planning a sequel [to Alpha Papa], yes, that will be great," Normal told the Guardian.

"We are also looking at doing more Mid Morning Matters and another Sky special, a little bit like Coast with Alan Partridge, except I don't think he goes out of Norfolk.

"I think it's things of interest in Norfolk, that's the general theme."

Normal added: "We start writing now. I think we make it at the end of summer."

Documentary series Coast, going around the coastline of Britain and originally fronted by Nicholas Crane, began on the BBC in 2005.

"I'm Alan Partridge was so well received, to make the next series you really had to find a way of coming at it in a different way," recalled Normal, speaking after he appeared at Advertising Week Europe in London on Wednesday.

"It was great to do something on the internet which was only 11 minutes long. We did some specials for Sky, which again gave it a different life.

"Steve wanted to do other things. You do get with Alan, if they are sitting in a room long enough, they do get 'Alan mad'. Alanageddon."

Normal said his company had approached the BBC with the 2012 series adapted from the Foster's funded programmes, but they wanted to make something different.

"Obviously the BBC has been involved with Partridge and we did go to see the BBC, but they said they didn't want a second series, they wanted something different.

"Steve said no, I want to do this as a second series and luckily we went over to Sky and Stuart Murphy and Lucy [Lumsden] said fantastic, what else have you got?"

A sequel to the hit Alan Partridge autobiography is to be published next year.

Written "with help" from Steve Coogan, Rob Gibbons and Neil Gibbons, the book is described as "a collection of essays, diary entries, open letters, think pieces, programme and business ideas".

Publishers Orion say: "The book will shed light on the private thoughts of the veteran broadcaster as he tackles issues as diverse as climate change, being good at driving, his 15-year legal wrangle with the owner of Allan Partridge Plastics Ltd., and the events that led to the collapse of his friendship with former rock-climbing partner Eamonn Holmes."

As yet untitled, the publication will follow on from the success of HarperCollins's I, Partridge: We Need To Talk About Alan

Both a critical and commercial success, the book sold more than 230,000 copies in its first two years, having been published in Autumn 2011. Orion will be hoping to emulate its success, publishing in hardback, e-book and audiobook formats in October 2016.

Alan Partridge said today: "What does it take to be a professional book writer? Firstly, a good idea. Easy, got loads of them. Secondly, a writing style that's visceral yet populist. I'd put myself somewhere between Gore Vidal and a children's author. Thirdly, a good vocabulary. I used the word visceral just now. And fourthly, time. You have to be able to sit down and write the damn thing! Fortuitously, a liquidated business venture means I now have an eight-week block of spare time at the back end of 2015. I plan to devote around five of those to writing this book.

"On my first meeting with Orion Publishing (there have been nine), I was blown away by their well-appointed offices, firm handshakes and a selection of biscuits that was high-end without being showy. Straight away, I knew these were people I could work with.

"I'm confident that this book can be a publishing phenomenon. It's no Fifty Shades of Grey, but I can assure it ain't a million miles away. After all, it will 'quicken the pulse', get you 'hot under the collar' and make you want to 'hit someone'."

The book is expected to be available to pre-order later in the year.
