2K wrote:Marvel's Midnight Suns is a new tactical RPG set in the darker side of the Marvel Universe, putting you face-to-face against demonic forces of the underworld as you team up with and live among the Midnight Suns, Earth's last line of defense.

An adaptation of 1992's Rise of the Midnight Sons cross-over event, Midnight Suns will feature an eclectic group of Marvel heroes who are known for their connection to the occult. While several of the heroes will be familiar to MCU and casual comic fans, like Iron Man and Captain Marvel, many of Midnight Suns characters will be introduced to players for the first time.

Season Pass content

The Season Pass adds Deadpool, Venom, Morbius, and Storm to the game in four post-launch DLC packs, releasing throughout 2023, as follows:

DLC 1

New Hero: Deadpool

A foulmouthed mercenary with a heart of gold, Deadpool has a penchant for grisly violence and lighthearted, fourth-wall breaking wisecracks.

DLC 2

New Hero: Venom

Spider-Man's nemesis and main game boss, Venom turns playable hero in DLC 2, armed with all of the same symbiote attacks that once threatened the lives of the Midnight Suns.

DLC 3

New Hero: Morbius

One of the original comic book Midnight Sons, Morbius is an accomplished biochemist who, in an attempt to cure his own rare blood disease, turned himself into a living vampire.

DLC 4

New Hero: Storm

A powerful member of the X-Men, Storm has the mutant ability to generate and manipulate wind, lightning, rain, and other types of weather to her will.

In addition to these heroes and their respective new abilities, each of the four DLC packs included in the Season Pass will introduce new story missions, a new upgrade for the Abbey, and a selection of new skins and outfits.

The Season Pass also includes the Legendary Premium Pack containing the following 23 premium skins at launch.

Something would have to go very wrong for me not to enjoy this. Love XCOM, love Marvel.

I'm intrigued that the name is "Midnight Suns" rather than the older "Midnight Sons" name; I guess it's more inclusive.

And I *think* that was an updated Ghost Rider in the trailer? Looked awesome!

Which thread we going for? I am still intrigued for how this will play out. The beauty of xcom is the fear of losing your best soldiers. Will that remain or are we going to get mission fail screens?

Will it be like wasteland 3 mixed with xcom? While I love xcom, I couldn’t get on with wasteland. Interested.

Interview with Devs -

Firaxis confirmed that Iron Man, Captain America, Captain Marvel, Doctor Strange, Blade, Nico Minoru, Magik, Robbie Reyes as Ghost Rider, and Wolverine will all be playable. There will be a total of 13 allied heroes in all, drawn from the Avengers, X-Men, Runaways, and beyond.

In between missions, players will have free rein to explore The Abbey, an all-new headquarters area designed in partnership with Marvel Comics, and its grounds. Solomon said players will explore it in third person, using their time to develop relationships with the other superheroes.

As the newly resurrected Hunter, players are the only ones capable of stopping Lilith and her minions from destroying the world. But, while the stakes are high, the game will not include permadeath — yet another departure from the classic XCOM formula.

Nice one, Milner - I wasn't sure if the Switch version had been confirmed. Opening thread updated.

Eurogamer have posted a detailed preview of the game.

Midnight Suns is set in the "darker side of the Marvel Universe", based on a '90s comic book series called Rise of the Midnight Sons - although apparently it's deliberately not an exact retelling of those events. The setup for the game is this: perpetual baddies Hydra have revived someone called Lilith, who does a bit of dead-raising that threatens to overrun the Avengers (Iron Man, Captain America, Captain Marvel, Dr. Strange, and Wolverine can be spotted in the trailer). The Avengers call up a few extra supernatural mates to help out, called the Midnight Suns, which includes Nico Minoru, Blade, Magik, and Ghost Rider, and a few more (12 Marvel heroes in total), and together they then resurrect some help of their own: one more hero, newly created for the game, called the Hunter, who's also Lilith's child and apparently the only one able to kill her.

I loved the Midnight Sons comics from the early 90s and it's so exciting to see a game based on the characters. *Maybe* I would have slightly preferred a full action title but this more strategic approach could be cool, too.

He looks and sounds like Robbie Reyes from Agents of SHIELD so probably that version.

GamesRadar have put together a good history of the Midnight Sons, the inspiration for the game. I hadn't really realised that 2022 will herald thirty (30!) years since the origins of the team :o .
