Mighty No. 9 is an all-new Japanese side-scrolling action game that takes the best aspects of the 8- and 16-bit era classics you know and love, and transforms them with modern tech, fresh mechanics, and fan input into something fresh and amazing!

You play as Beck, the 9th in a line of powerful robots, and the only one not infected by a mysterious computer virus that has caused mechanized creatures the world over to go berserk. Run, jump, blast, and transform your way through six stages (or more, via stretch goals) you can tackle in any order you choose, using weapons and abilities stolen from your enemies to take down your fellow Mighty Number robots and confront the final evil that threatens the planet!

Image

Every aspect of development—art, level design, music, programming, etc.—is being handled by veteran Japanese game creators with extensive experience in the genre, and with Mega Man in particular, all the way up to and including the project’s leader, Keiji Inafune himself! Backers will have unprecedented access to seeing this team at work through blogs, podcasts, videos, concept art—the works!
Mighty No. 9 is being developed for the PC with gamepad support (of course!), and will be made available through Steam and DRM-free digital distribution methods. Other platforms, including home consoles, Mac, and Linux, are a high priority, but only if we can afford them via stretch goals. Should we reach those goals, anyone funding the project will be allowed to choose which version of the game they would like to receive. The estimated release date is spring 2015.

 Here's hoping they can match that concept art. They have already made $497,113 of the $900,000 goal in one day

Nice. Reminds me of Mega Man Powered Up.

I have no idea about all this copyright stuff, but is there any chance Capcom could put a stop to this? I seem to remember Nintendo getting a bunch of Mario rip-off games removed from the App store, and this is really no different (apart from probably being a quality game).

I think they're probably safe. Its similar look and feel, but it's demonstrably a Not-Megaman game from the same creator.

Besides, Capcom have turned down several Megaman game designs in the past citing profitability as the reason, so as far as they're concerned, this is probably the ideal way to bring it back - with someone else footing the bill. If it's the flop they're expecting, no problem, and if it's successful, well, they've got ACTUAL Megaman and they can task the tea-boy with updating him to match the commerically successful new design.

I'm so pleased that this has nearly met it's target already. It shows Capcom that there is still an audience for Megaman games despite their less than favourable handling of the franchise in recent years.

So since this has been funded, the amount of updates they have given is staggering. They have been really open about how the designs have come together. The fan art has been something else too, some of my favs

Its now achieved the stretch goals for PS4, Xboxone, 3DS & Vita versions with the Kickstarter closing in less than two hours. When you see that sort of success it really makes you question how Capcom have handled the Megaman franchise over the last few years.

I'm betting Capcom will do some kind of response to this. They obviously realize now that they have absolutely goofed.

You'd like to think that publishers are looking at whats happening with services like Kickstarter and will try to reassess what they spend their money funding. How many other well loved games and genres are there that were let go dormant because the publisher couldn't find a way to make them into "AAA" $60 games?

I can't wait for this, but it's so far away!

I wonder if the success of Mighty No.9 will inspire Capcom to resurrect Megaman so that they can cash in.

There's now another Mighty No. 9 fundraiser campaign underway. Yes, even though Comcept have already accumulated $4m in funding when they were targeting $900k.

The accompanying video talks about expanding the game into other media; it's not clear how much of this new funding will be for the game and how much is for other things. The first target is $100k for an English voice-over and it's hard to understand why this couldn't be achieved within the current four million dollar budget.

Perhaps I'm missing something. Maybe Megaman fans are hyped for this. But it just seems like a huge cash-grab now.

This latest round of crowd funding has left a sour taste, I backed this initially as a huge Megaman fan, but they got four times what they asked for, how badly managed is this project? If you look at Inafune's other project in the works, Azure Striker Gunvolt it has more features and yet was not crowd funded at all.

You have to wonder if Inafune managed Megaman projects this badly whilst at Capcom and if this why the blue bomber is no longer part of Capcom's plans.

In agreement with this latest round of crowd funding. How much is making this game going to cost? They'd better be using that money to make the game look better as the alpha looks in bad shape (yes, I get it's not going to be in the best of shapes right now, I'm just still miffed it doesn't look like the concept art).

That build didn't look too good. I'm concerned about the character movement it seems really loose. I guess I'll not know if it is until I actually play the thing.
