GRcade - The Search For Sand

Started working on my house last night and made some good progress. Plenty of trees on hand so it's wood and glass all the way. Panes definitely make the glass go further, so I'll be sticking to them. Once I've got the first level finished I'll go on a gravel hunt and we can start laying down some paths. :D

If you go to the first level of my mine there is a load of gravel in the various branches. Also in the loft area of my house there is some in the chest marked "dirt, sand, gravel, etc."

There will be gooseberry fool loads more soon, have moved over the mega pit mining method now so will have loads and loads of spare gravel soon.

My next project will be a big ass store house for us all to store common blocks like stone, dirt, gravel etc. so we dont need gooseberry fool loads of space in our own houses for it :)

What happened to my house, it looks like it had a creeper in there. Also there were lights up. Anyway, I only care as my bed is gone.

Dunno, I haven't gone over there. I have some spare wool (I think) in the box labeled "misc" in my loft if you want it.

I've only been in Errkals place recently. Need to secure spawn properly. I mean fences around the area and adequate lighting in all areas. Once I've done the paths I'll start on that.

On a full fat server you can use a /gamerule to stop mob griefing, they will still attack and do damage to players but it stops creepers blowing holes in stuff, dunno if it works in realms but may be worth looking into.

Saves the need for fences and gooseberry fool around our area as they will very very quickly become a pain in the hole as we grow the town and become sort of redundant when the town is big enough as tehre will be enough lit areas to discourage stuff coming in.

It looks like a Creeper blew up the back of my stables but someone mended it.

Hahaha

I did do some work, I did work out why a customer's servers were being hit by a barrage of authentication requests and stopped it so I figur I've done a thing so all good, on to mega pit!

Liking the bridge, not sure in the wood paths I suspect that is going to get very annoying very fast as we need masses of wood for paths as well as flooring and stuff in buildings

I was thinking that this morning. Gravel with a cobblestone border looked gooseberry fool. Looks better with wood, but will take a lot of it. Perhaps cobblestone with a wood border. Or maybe granite if we can make enough. I'll play about with it tonight and see what works.

I've always liked gravel, although there is a grey stone that looks a bit less gooseberry fool that I have heaps as seems more common than gravel, I just can't remember it's name....

The other thing to think about is if/when towers start springing up thin paths looks super cramped and there is no space for lighting and things.

Its why in the past I have always gone for wide "proper" roads where you have a "road" section, curn line on either side and then 2 block wide pavements on either side, you can then out torches every 7th block along the curb on either side which is plenty to light everything, and the width of the road keeps stuff spaced out.

This was my old server:

Image

Road section was 7 wide, with a 1 wide curb and 2 wide pavements. just spaces everything out, that was wool as was in creative mode and could do what I wanted but something like

Anedsite for the road, diorite for the curb and cobble for the pavement could work.

Ive made a sample outside my house so you can see how it looks.

Image

Not sure what to use that isn't going to become a arse at some point, but I really like the road and pavement combo as it spaces everything well and looks "proper" and with torches provides light and when you start getting very built up it prevents stuff looking too cramped and means you dont need to put torches on sides of buildings which can prevent some funky designs like glass buildings and things.
