I just read all 57 pages of the developers blog. I've not played the game yet but I love reading how it was developed and I have a thing for procedurally generated levels. It makes me wish I could make games but despite having some basic programming skills I wouldn't know where to start.

Spelunky's another good procedurally developed game as well.

The thing is, publishers don't like procedurally generated content, because they'd rather sell you an stream of human developed stages rather than give you an endless stream of computer generated stages.

I managed to free him by hitting him with a stick. Image

But then he got caught in the tide and can't swim to shore. Image

This game is amazing! I'm totally playing it like a Harvest Moon game right now. When multiplayer survival mode is implemented...the possibilities! Zelda, Dungeon Keeper etc...

Fire melts ice.

This might seem like a fairly obvious thing, but I was very disappointed to return and find that my mine had been FLOODED because my torches had melted my cool ice roof, letting all the water above flood in. Good thing it drains away and doesn't actually fill the place up as otherwise I'd be ruined! Still can't find any iron though.

Explore naturally generated caverns for iron. There isn't a huge amount so at first you'll have to make some hard choices about how to spend it.

From reading this thread I'm guessing the Java version isn't the real deal...

So far this year, I have eaten NO mince pies.

There seems to be an up to date Java version of Minecraft alpha, unless I'm missing something.

I'm guessing by "Java version", you mean the version known simply as "Minecraft". "Minecraft Alpha" is the pay version.

Yeah, it's the version you can play on a browser.

It's all Java and you can run the paid version as an applet in browser or as separate client.

I went on the website a few days ago, just played the browser version and still have no idea what this game is about  The browser game was interesting, though I had no idea what I was meant to be doing. Even the 'About' page on the site hasn't helped me.

Yeah, i have to admit, kind of struggling with the start of the game. It's cool to run around in, but so far I've got some wool and flowers, and thats about my lot.

so when you buy it do you get any kind of key that will let you activate it on steam in 6 months? cause i'd only be able to play like 30 mins per day at the moment cause i'm on holiday so if not then i might as well wait till it's on steam and buy it there. even if i have to pay more, as i gather from the thread that it's multiplayer of sorts so steamage would own tenfold.
