I think they will change their mind, they'll never hear the end of it if they don't. Everyone else is on board, this is the future of Minecraft here.

I presume server would will be same size on Switch but its draw distance wouldn't be too far.

bit weird if true but I read a comment on NeoGaf saying it is coming to PS3.

Love the idea of cross play, I imagine it will be through realms, it would be nice if you could import a world to it as I don't want to loose my map. . . It's why I'm not on the ground server is I'd have to start again.

A great idea, its fantastic to see that Microsoft understand Minecraft and are making a lot of smart choices. My biggest worry was they would just get to work on Minecraft 2 and made it Xbox exclusive but seeing how they continue to support and expand it on all platforms has put those fears to bed. I do have some questions about the cross platform play though.

Is it only through realms or can it be done over LAN? Can I play on my PC and someone else on a Switch, someone else on a phone using some kind of adhoc mode? Is the Wii U getting cross platform support?

To me it seems to be that it is anyone on any device play but via realms, which would probably rule out the java version but would include the windows 10 version and all others.

So I picked up the Switch version of this and it's sucked me right back in. The controls took a bit of getting used to as I'm so familiar with the PC version but it's been great to play on. I'm amazed at how big a difference being able to play anywhere makes. On the train I can just take it out and continue exploring the cave system under my home, or work on enhancing my spawn area. Fantastic.

It's just a shame that the Java version isn't compatible with the Windows 10 and Console versions as it would be great to get onto our server from it.

Might be worth looking to see how we can set up a Windows 10 version server so we can play together on any platform once the update comes out.

That's probably going to be the case. Though Windows 10 does have an option to join a private server, it doesn't seem to work on ours though. Again, it's probably due to our server being for the Java version. I'll admit I'm not particularly clued up on this though.

My understanding of the "Better Together" update is that everyone who wants to use it will need an Xbox Live account, regardless of platform as that's how you'll join on friends and so on.

It will be interesting to see how it pans out, it would be good to be able to play not have to have someone running it all.

Absolutely. What systems are people playing this on anyway?

I know most people are going to be on the PC, but do we have any XB1 players? I'd ask about PS4 but Sony have stiffed them. If there's enough people I'd be happy to stump up the £5-6 pounds to get our own Realm if it means I can play online anywhere I want on my Switch.

Update should be live for Xbox One versions, but Windows 10 hasn't updated on mine yet.

Annoying that we have to wait for the Switch version though as that's my main Minecraft right now. Once my Windows 10 version updates I'll look into setting up a realm or server for us to play on.

I recently reinstalled this, it's the Java version. Will that be cross play?

Nope. But if you had an old minecraft account from the early days it may have prompted you to create a mojang account instead. You should be able to tie that into your windows store and get the Windows 10 version for free. I can't remember exactly how you do it though as it's been ages since I did it.

Once you have that you just need to wait for the Better Together Update to filter through, which should happen in the next 24 hours or so.

EDIT; https://help.mojang.com/customer/en/por ... 10-edition - This is how you go about getting the Windows 10 version. This doesn't stop you using the Java version though so you can use both if you want, but they aren't compatible with each other.

Cool.

Like I said I'm gonna look into getting a Realm set up over the weekend in all likelihood. I'd normally suggest our own, private server, but the console versions can only access the sanctioned servers, which defeats the point of "Better Together".

I'll post details of that once I have them and we can get Mining across numerous platforms. I'm especially looking forward to the Switch version, so hopefully that won't be too far away.

There are some caveats to getting the upgrade if you've got the Disc version. You need to have played it for more than Five hours or bought some DLC for it to unlock the upgrade.
The rest of them should update automatically from what I've heard.

With regards Realms on console...

Q: How do I purchase a Realms subscription and access the Marketplace on my console?

A: To purchase a Realms subscriptions or Marketplace content, you will need to launch the new Minecraft version of the game on your console – this will not work with Minecraft: Xbox One Edition.

Q: How will the Better Together Update change my experience playing Minecraft?

A: The Better Together Update will bring the latest and most-requested features to more platforms, and give more players the chance to connect in more ways – via Realms, massive multiplayer servers, and cross-platform play.

So once you get the BTU you will be able to access Realms on console. Every version of the game getting the update is being renamed as simply "Minecraft", though you will be able to access the older versions if you wish (Losing the BT updates).

I'll check out my Windows 10 version tonight to see if the update has cropped up yet.

I own it digitally, (the pricing) is a known bug that MS are looking into.
