World's timed events are one of my main bugbears, going long periods where I can't get online with it because of my broadband situation means I've missed out on loads of stuff, and when I can get online there's no guarantee the quests I want will be there. Just glad that Behemoth is permanent otherwise I'd probably have missed him too, as it is I'm still having to wait till late this month before I can actually do the patch.

Definitely one of the worst things about world yeah.

I've settled on alchemy as my style, it's not the most effective (and no crouch fire :( ) but I enjoy shaking my barrel a lot. The mortar is dumb and great too.

I sank 170 hours into World but hit a brick wall trying to take down Tempered Kirin (honestly, would it hurt him just to stand still and not attack for a few minutes?). Making slow progress on this as I'm trying to finish Yakuza Zero first but I'll be right into it once that's done.

I'm going to try and stay with the Insect Glaive, but it handles a bit differently as the Kinsect isn't as dynamic and aiming's a bit trickier. Does dust (explosive/health regen) become a feature through upgrades? Or was that just brought in for World?

The dust stuff was new to World.

I mained the glaive in MH4U and Gen but I'm holding of in this until I have enough upgrade materials to get the kinsect speed up quickly. Tried one out briefly in this when I started and I hate having the kinsect be so slow. Mostly been using valor great sword and aerial hammer so far.

Cheers, Maf. Hammer's a good shout, that's my other usual main. And smacking something three times the size of you in the puss with it is just *so* satisfying.

I’ve been using the hammer in an effort to try a new weapon. In the older games I used to use the long sword or lance.

I Lee finding myself wondering if I’d be better off with the greatsword. Seems very similar with better range. Are there any benefits the hammer has over the greatsword? Other than the obvious satisfaction of skelping monsters in the face with a hammer.

Don't you get more frequent drops on breakable rare parts with a hammer?

I don't think so?

Hammer is blunt rather than cutting damage, so its big advantage is being able to stun monsters by clobbering them in the head. I think hammer just tops greatsword on raw damage too, though I might be wrong.

I've been trying to work out the most efficient use of alchemy to maximise alchemy and arts. Currently I think it is get to level 3, create and use alchemy booster, get to level 1 and create alchemy bullets, use 4 of the 5 bullets to help boost arts along, get to level 4, create and combine alchemy slick with alchemy bullets to max them out at 30, then go back to another alchemy booster which you should get before the last runs out.

Level 5 alchemy also has the cheer though that gives one big boost to arts, so I need to figure out if that is more efficient than getting a slick plus bullets. The alchemy bar cost is the same though so for solo I think the bullets work out better.

Hammer does blunt damage and you're meant to concentrate on the head to stun the monster. It's also handy for monsters that have hard parts on they back that other weapons bounce off.

I prefer greatsword most of the time since you can block with that too, but I switch to hammer for monsters like Hermitaur.

Played a bit more this evening and did the 1* urgent quest which was a fun fight. I always liked those leaping Velocidrome attacks (did they arrive in 4?) so the Great Maccao was good. Then (not sure if it's really a spoiler) I got to travel and went to visit Pokke village which made me smile like a loon (I played an absolute fuckton of MHFU). Only problem, no farm. :x

So how does online work in this? I went into a lobby earlier but couldn't see a screen that showed what quests people had selected (I think 4U used to have that).

I just got clobbered by a Tetsucabra that I think had a few more hits left before it got downed.
Doesn't help that I wasted all my tranq bombs when it got trapped in a poison trap, thinking that would enable me to capture it.

Capturing :dread:

I've played a few more hours of the last week, almost got my full Jaggi armour done (just need some more disc-stones). Absolutely loving the fan service, the PSP games were always my favourites until 4 came along and it's nice to revisit those locations and monsters. I think I'm probably going to prefer it to 4 once everything is opened up but I'm not liking the weapon upgrade paths at this point.

I have a compulsion to do every quest before moving on, so I'm like 14 hours in and have just reached 3* village
