The dress up options in this are rubbish.
So much doesn't get affected by the shaders :(

Overall the game is a lot less colourful and weapon/armour designs less interesting than previous entries. Apparently the devs tried to make it less "anime" to appeal more to western gamers :?

The bowgun designs have been a bit boring so far. No kut-ku head or lobster so far, for example.

I like the armour designs though, especially for the palicos.

I want to use the Teostra chest - stays red.

I then make a hybrid set to max bow damage (Rath, Diablos and Orogun pieces) - all different colours, and stay there whatever shader

Playing dress up is a key part of the game.

There was a cool as strawberry float longsword that was just a big chainsword called the CHAINSLAUGHTER

Yeah, weapons have seemed fairly bland so far to me, a lot of them seem to just be palette changes with the odd feather/scaly bit on the hilt/blade. I've heard that they get more interesting at High Rank though so I'll reserve judgement till then.

Got to the Coral Highlands the other day, really cool area. Feel like they're going way more into the fantastical route than they have previously when it comes to world design. I'm on the Palaomu quest at the minute but got distracted tracking and killing a Legiana (which took way longer than I thought it would) before I even started looking for it, ended up with it nearly dead but timed out before I could finish it. Also trying to farm Anjanath bits for fire weapons but Fire Sac seems to have a really low drop rate for some reason, killed at least five in my past few sessions but only dropped one so far.

They seem to have gone a more practical route with armour designs. I don't mind the realism, but that shouldn't really stop you from creating more crazy designs. It's been pretty safe so far.

I agree with Coral Highlands. Just got to that area the other day. How are we expected to hunt when everything looks so gosh darn pretty.

I have also just entered Coral Highlands. Really enjoying it so far, rocking the Greatsword and Hunting Horn. Just need a few more Anjanath parts and I think I'm sorted for my big ol' Greatsword.

Question, though:

Does elemental damage get added on top of raw physical? The Flammenzahn looks like the strongest I have access to right now, but if some of the damage is fire that's not going to be better than my current one since depending on resistance it will do less. If it's just damage on top then that's fine.

Yeah - Elemental Damage gets added to normal damage,

150 Dam + 50 Fire will "always" do more damage that a 150 Dam weapon (unless the creature is immune to fire [red x], when it'll do the same. But even a 1* Fire creature will take more damage)

It's a bit more complicated as only the normal Dam is scaled on a Crit (unless you have certain skills)

So raw damage/crit builds are better with non elemental weapons?

Trying to clear out my optional quests before heading to the Rotten Vale and ended up getting bored on the cactus delivery one so went and had a catch up with my old pal Diablos. That new trick with the falling sand walls took me by surprise.
My palico is now wearing him though so all's well that ends well.

Farming is so much more easier in world. Seems very generous compared to older games. Got a Legiana Plate on my 3rd hunt from a capture quest. Have now finished my set alongside the Legiana IG. I'm ready to freeze some fools. This makes my second set after Tobi. Low Rank isn't usually super important when it comes to armour sets tho, but I couldn't resist >,>

I've hit 100 hours.... Still loving it and have got a lot of stuff to do.

I've just made a Switch Axe set and I'm ready to move from the bow, at least for a while. Need to get a lot more stuff to really max out my character but the grind is done so well it's an adventure and not a chore.

Probably the best multiplayer game Ive ever played as having different people with different sets and styles all fighting together keeps it interesting.

Though I'll never understand why when a monster is sleeping there is always one person who doesn't wait for everyone to place their bombs and instead just wakes the thing up.

Wish my image sig would work

I main hammer

I used to use switch axe too but getting thrown off during the mounting charge up attack so often just feels terrible and random.

So I've picked up the long sword as a secondary, much more fun.

Still not used anything but a bowgun (and I've only used LBG in the arena)

I'm glad none of you use the charge blade, that weapon has almost no downsides, oh you wanna tank, have good mobility and high damage? Sure why not. Oh yeah, and you can use it to stun monsters as well.

I am quite fond of the normal sword and shield but it's far too boring to fight with, hammer and long sword have nice big meaty attacks you can land when a monster is vulnerable as well as secondary objectives like landing KOs with the hammer or building up your helm breaking gauge with the long sword.

It's cool to see such a variety of weapon use though for the most part. I'm not at the end game yet but when I am I think I'm going to be a support hammer user. I already use the status inflicting hammers but when I can I really want to max out the wide range skill so I can use items on team mates

IG is the style of weapon I've always dreamed of which is why I can't help but main it. I didn't get to put enough hours into 4U since I was pretty burned out with MH by then. But with World that drive has come back and it feels great. I do plan to branch out with other weapons later on. Still fond of Lance and Long Swords. Especially Lance since I hear it's more closer to how it was in Tri now.
