Also traps work well and the piercing shot with the bow is excellent as he is long and slow.
Went back and killed a great jagras yesterday. Took less than a minute. Also managed to get some good decorations and a gem yesterday. Need to upgrade my switch axe via augmenting, but need some jewels and axe augmenting stuff. HR 61 now, be a while til I hit HR 100.
Maybe it was because I was slightly hungover yesterday but I was getting quite frustrated with the Paolomu fight.
I know I was using a hammer, which is a slow, calculated weapon with long animations, but I was just constantly getting interrupted and knockback.
He has a wind attack that pushes toh over, he has a roar that pushes you, if you slightly clip his feet when he runs at you, you go flying. This is on top of getting stunned too. Just felt like everything was knocking me flying constantly. It felt unfair rather than enjoyable aspects of the fight.
The player never likes not being in control, but in this fight it just felt like I was constantly waiting for my character to get up and allow me to move him about again.
Yeah, I know, armour has skills that deal with the roar and the paralysis and the wind, but it's strawberry floating frustrating to be so suspectible to it from the off.
Might have to switch to a faster weapon, which would be a shame as I've stuck 20 hours into the hammer now and enjoyed pounding on monsters' heads with it.
It's always good to have a secondary weapon to complement your main, you can defeat anything with any weapon but sometimes it's just way, way easier to use one more suited to the situation. Like trying to take on Deviljho with dual blades, you can barely reach more than his ankles. If you're struggling with Paolumu try something more mobile like the Long Sword or bugstaff (bugstaff is especially good for avoiding knockback if you happen to have Kadachi chest armour, it gives a skill nullifying minor knockback in the air).
For all flying enemies, bring 3 flash bombs, carry 10 flash bugs too. Take your demon drug to boost your attack and then flash it. Batter it and when it takes off, flash it. When all 3 flashes are gone, craft 3 more, keep doing that til it goes away to sleep. When it does, plant 2 mega bombs, blow them up and it's pretty much done.
I use switch axe and bow with two very different builds, switch axe is raw damage, arrow is affinity and agility. Depends on the monster as to what weapon I use.
Also YouTube has some amazing build guides for different weapons, they are a good starting point.
I really need to branch out too. But constantly farming for parts can be a drag which is usually why I focus on one wep until late game where it becomes more easier to farm for items. I miss Lance and Long Sword too much.
Fully upgraded Kadachi IG so I can now farm Nerg for it's IG so I can take on the trio of Elder Dragon quest. It's a process I like taking my time with >,> I want to be properly prepared because it's been too long since I last fought my old bros Kushala and Teostra. It's gonna be a moment for sure lol.
It's an enjoyable fight, not elder dragon difficult but more challenging than an average fight. Currently working on getting it's switch axe, might get the two helms too.
One thing I do hate though.... In Diablo 3 you can re skin all equipment so you can look how you want... In this though I'm stuck and it's a shame as I really want to change my look.

This was a thing in Generations, I think it's a thing in World too in the end-game?
Looking forward to crossing paths with the ol' pickle. Have a lot of fond memories hunting it back in Tri and P3rd. But this time I'll be going in with an IG for the first time so I'm hyped.
Just made a fire and ice dual blade set which doesn't lose sharpness as all hits are critical hits..... This game just keeps giving. Now I have a third build to use and learn. The depth in the builds on offer is huge.
Did the event with two monsters as a test, killed them both in about 3 minutes. Such an enjoyable weapon to use too.
