Might mean I can wait for reviews tho...

I think the review embargo is up on Thursday or Friday. Did you try the beta?

Beta was only on PS4, being an online game I thought it’d take a few days for reviews, no?

I'd imagine most of the online stuff is playable for the reviewers just now. The online quests are just the same as the single player ones but with more people.

Managed to hunt all 4.

Final monster took 2 hours in a pick up group of 4. Dieing or running out of time it was real tough.

I'm tempted by it, but having been burned by Destiny 2 I might wait to see how the endgame is. I've also bought MU3 on the Wii U and 4 on the 3DS and neither got its hooks into me (admittedly I stick maybe five hours into 3 and barely any into 4). I'm hoping the MMO trappings and the fact it's on a home console with a controller might draw me in. It always felt fiddly on a small handheld.

Proper brand new Monster Hunter games almost always get glowing reviews, it doesn't stop any of them being an incomprehensible, clunky mess to people who don't regularly play the games, even if they are supposed to be 'accessible'.

From metacritic:

Freedom - 71
Freedom 2 - 72
Freedom Unite - 81
Tri - 84
3U - 79/82
4U - 86
Generations - 85

World - 91 (currently)

MH games have been progressively getting better reviews. They've also (mostly) been progressively getting more accessible.

Yeah that's my worry, given that the Eurogamer review seems to be someone famiar with the series, often they are rated from the point of view of the fans. I couldn't really get on with 3 and 4, though like I said, I didn't play them much at all.

Watched a review and while they like the game, the did say it's repetitive and clunky still...I'll wait for a sale I think.

Excellent

But in all seriousness everyone is going to be using Monster Hunter language rather than English VA right

The lip-syncing looks pretty bad with the English VA and one of the main characters is voiced by some Nolan North/Troy Baker clone who just sounds so generic and boring, so yeah I'm using the MH language.

Ended up getting it via Boomerang. Would love to support it but am worried it won't be my cup of tea. I'll have nothing else to play for a while yet (once I am done with Dead Rising 4) and so I should be able to give it a proper go, and if it then does turn out to be my kind of thing I'll buy it outright.

It seems to be a great edition to jump into but like other have said, th game mechanics are clunky as hell. The beta did nothing for me buuuuuuttt I somewhat felt the same with Dark Souls at first. It’s a franchise I want to understand so I’ll be waiting for a cheap pick up.
