This is well fun B)

Loving the changes to bowguns. It's basically a shooter now!

Will the final game require PSplus? From everything I've seen I thought it was a single player game with drop-in drop-out co-op?

It's online four player quest-based co-op. The game can be played in singleplayer but it's better in multiplayer, and skews more that way in the late game.

That's not to say someone couldn't play for hundreds of hours in singleplayer and enjoy it. I've certainly done that in previous MH games

Enjoyed what I've played of this but it doesn't really feel like the huge evolution at all that the initial trailer hinted at. Main difference is obviously the non-segmented map but other than that it just kinda feels like the previous instalments. The scout fly stuff leading you everywhere became old very quickly too.

Trying to get an online game going was a mess, matchmaking never works at all for me so I always had to use the search by criteria option so I hope that's sorted for the full game and they don't have any excuses for not letting you just invite people in from your PSN/Live/Steam friends list now.

Looking forward to it, but I was way more hyped for 4 Ultimate.

Agree on the scoutflies, I don't particular like them and have been finding them overly distracting. It's hard to appreciate the world when the screen is covered in glowing dust, and following their trail makes the whole thing feel more gamified and less immersive.

I do however think that there are some pretty major evolutions in gameplay. As a gunner, bowguns feel /way/ different, to the point of feeling like a shift in genre towards a proper TPS.

Traversal is just as big a change as the non-area'd map. Some of it is easy to miss in the demo, like using the slinger as a grappling hook and swinging between beetles and vines, or using it to abseil down a long climb. Previous iterations have made improvements to traversal, but it feels like a real gear-change here with the infinite stamina outside of combat and fast sliding down slopes.

As for combat, it's hard to tell how much is demo-specific, but several new mechanics all make it feel substantially different. The inter-monster fighting. The environment hazards (melynxes surrounding a monster and trapping it down!). Item/resources causing effects, like hitting a flashbug or a poisonous plant. The environment and interplay of mechanics feels a lot more important.

I never liked Bowguns before but they are way, way more fun now. LBG especially is great with the mines, it shakes it up a bit rather than just have it be point and shoot. Not as keen on the sniper HBG but the minigun is such a power trip and I love it.

I've never really liked using any of the projectile weapons, they've always felt a bit cumbersome (and I know how daft that sounds when compared to the other weapons  ). I'm surprised they haven't added any new weapons, Tri had the switch axe and 4 had the charge blade and insect glaive (my favourite :datass: )

I love how the felines go about in little inflatable dinghies when you're fighting in the water

I've been exclusively a gunner since freedom on PSP, cumbersome wasn't half of it. But bowguns just really clicked with me and I can't get on with playing anything else (with the possible exception of bow, but I've never been a big fan). I don't think it's too unfair to suggest it's almost a different game when you play bowguns.

Sniper is my favourite and mines my least favourite  But yes, spraying bullets everywhere is great B)

Had a wee shot of this yesterday and was blown away. I thought it would be totally dumbed down. It seems more like a nicely polished version with an open world and seriously amazing looking graphics.

On another note, I went back to 4U for a bit last night. Loving it again. Some of you are talking about the projectile weapons. I’m keen to try one, but play more in solo. Are they not more intended for multiplayer, where you can shoot the enemies while someone takes the aggro?

Yes, solo gunning is a different experience but definitely doable. Since they added palicos you can set up your cats to draw the aggro from you anyway.

LBG is definitely an easier option if you're worried about evasion, but I lean towards HBG myself - and being able to attach a shield is useful.

How do you do that with the Palicoes?

Not sure how world is going to work, but in MH4U (and generations) for example you could pick protection palicoes that target large monsters and they'd do a decent job (wiki link). TBH no matter what the type they tend to draw some of the attention. I'd only find myself being targeted most of the time when they'd been ko'd.

Anyone want some games of MH4U on the DS? Give me a shout. I’m getting back into it, so keep to get some people to play with.

Got this pre-ordered on the PS store. Only played the 3ds version. Loved it, though it was held back by the graphic and controls. Very excited to get into this and slaying giant Monsters.

Anyone played Monster Hunter Stories on 3DS? I'm very tempted as a companion to MH World.

Yup, it's great. If you want a pokemon-style RPG in the monster hunter universe then go for it. Plenty of content to keep you busy for many, many hours too.
